First time using the Skydio drone! Crazy Cool

This wasn't my drone, it was a friends, so I only rode, didn't set it up etc. Here is what I can say.

The battery did die on us ones, it just stopped and hovered until we got it. Which isn't a great thing. Too bad it doesn't fly back to where it took off and land.......

Unsure about tree'd riding, in the video it was avoided due to early season low snow levels

Oh yeah Mike. It's insano when it works, frustrating when it's not. You gotta learn the quirks. In open riding it really shines.
Yeah, we tried the follow me without the beacon, didn't work very well. With the beacon, it was very impressive, never lost us. But as you can see in the vid, we only rode in the open that day.

But how does it work in the trees??. In the video the rider seemed to be avoiding entering any trees
It's actually pretty amazing. It's better with evergreens, snow loaded trees help. Small branches are deadly and they won't honor warranty if you hit one. It's kinda like gambling, it'll keep hitting jackpots in the trees but eventually you'll go bust. I've crashed two now, one to powerline chasing my truck down dirt road, another I hit small branch in burnt forest. Some impressive avoidance in this video I made, I crashed it while filming this one:

What happens when the battery dies?

It'll hover in place then auto land when the battery gets to low. You can set a home point and it will auto detect the case and land on it. Soo if you are super concerned, you set home point on the case it'll go back and land on it. It's a pretty smart robot. I'm guessing your buddy had return to phone set. You have to configure the home point before you start tracking.

Personally I like to hand catch it, I keep beacon mounted on my handlebars and beeps and flash are loud enough that I generally recognize when it's time to stop and catch it. It does have about a 25-28 minute flight time so that's pretty good time to get the shot.

There is no question that those things are cool but I don't think I would want one following me around on my sled. I fear I would be like one of those People that think they are a pretty good dancer until they see themselves on video (think "Elaine" on Sienfeld) ...DOH!!!.

Its funny you say that.

Honestly its one of the best ways to learn. When you see what your actually doing vs what you think your doing you can start to make changes. It truely helps a ton. Especially for guys learning to jump showing body position. They feel like they are skis down all styled out and see and realize they are still full boner air.

Yes, I have considered that exact thing. The next best thing to having an expert watch you and giving pointers. I actually was booked for a Chris Burrandt clinic (that would have been taking place next week) but it was cancelled (bummer).

Real Talk! When I used to professionally Mountain Bike, and do lessons, I would bring a go pro and laptop into the woods to have my clients jump/carve/etc then upload it right there on the trail to break it down. HUGE help, because you may "feel" like you're doing something, but then to watch yourself, you realize your not even close to doing what you "feel" If I were to get into Mountain Riding Lessons, Id do the exact same thing

That is IF you have someone that KNOWS what they are looking for and therefore knows what to point out and can explain how to improve. It is like I have always said, "Self taught just means that you learned from someone that didn't know what they were doing".
