First Sled, 2002 RMK 800 help me out!

Hey guys,

New to the forum here but i'm planning on buying a sled this winter.

take a look here: http://denver.craigslist.org/for/3362099137.html

I'm 21 and prepared to work on this thing whenever needed, i kind of want it more of a project sled to be honest. i love working on cars etc so i'm not scared to get my hands dirty.
I've ridden a bunvh of sleds before so it's not like i'm a complete rookie.

Was the 2002 a good year?
my concern is that the hood is from like a 2000 maybe? or is that a 2002 hood?

What should be things that i'm looking for?

Anyway any help would be really appreciated!

thanks guys.

Looks like a Gen II to me. No bumper. The 2002 motor had exhaust valves, the 2000-2001 did not. Ask for pictures of the motor. Also on the right side of the tunnel is the serial number plate. Shows model number and manufacture date too. That will tell you what it really is.

That sled was for sale last season pretty much as a parts sled. I talked to him about it last April or May, he was having trouble getting it to run right. I think he was asking $700 or $800, I can't remember exactly. He must have figured out the problem.

I think you can find a better deal than that. That one looks like a lot of unknowns to me.

You can pick up a 2002 800 Edge RMK in the Salt Lake classifieds for right around $2k without the unknowns that this one has.

I agree with sled_guy, If you ask me, I would say the sled is a 2001 snowcheck 800, I'm going off of the "800" on the side of the belly pan, not to offend you, but sled looks like a beater to me. You can find a lot better sled on KSL.com for the money. Also do a research on here both the 800 motor Gen II and Edge chassis on the forums, they didn't have the strongest crank. The 700 motor was bullet proof, and with a pipe/intake, they could give similar model year 800s a really good run for the money if not run better.
