First run with The ROAM

Yeah I know I didn't know where to mount it. I need to move it back on the helmet.

Nice, I got the v1.06 firmware loaded in mine, but with no snow I havn't had a chance to use it. The ROAM does have a good picture.

Do you have much control over the settings? To me, the colors in that video look pretty washed out, there's not much detail to them. I'd immagine that once you get that camera into snow, it's only going to get worse.

To compare, I took this the other day with my Hero2:

Yes. The factory setting is 720p/30fps.

What res was your Hero2 set to?

To me they look comparable, the first video it just shaky and at times not in focus plus the viewing area wasn't that great.

^^^^^^^ Agreed the sun is bleaching out the shot. Also, i personally prefer the helmet mount, i like the visor in the view. I just think it makes things look smoother, IDK. maybe that is just me. Also, it is more POV that way and makes the veiwer feel as though they are along for the ride.

Oh yeah, lose the reflectors and bar ends and get some clipless pedals or at least lose the toe cages. lol

I'm shooting in 720/60 but then I converted it to 24fps for the slow motion.

did look washed up...but was pointing up at the sun?

changes that can be made

increase bit rate to max

change sensor to a smaller focal point..think you can do this on the roam..this will cut down on the sunlight effecting light sensor levels

Lots of other settings that are adjustable (at least on the other contours) to dial in your pic.

720 over 1080 shouldn't make that much difference on the puter...but Vimeo does put out a better quality pic than youtube.

you shouldn't have to though?

hope this cam isn't a dog....got one in the box waiting for snow.

I doubt it. The HD was a good camera, expecting bout the same from it. Biggest complaint was the mic sensitivity which should be fixed with the firmware update.... time will tell.

could also be a cheap or improperly formmated microsd card.

Did you reformat it for use with your camera...was it an old card or a new one?

Ya, I hope it's a setting or something because I think the picture sucks to be quite honest. Hopefully it can be fixed. What kind of metering does it have?

Biggest mistake peeps make with mounting the camera to the lid is that it is too low. You'll get used to it though.

The crash was awesome, it was the kind of wreck where you fall and hurry back to your bike hoping that nobody saw it and go on through your day like nothing happened ;)

I just purchased this camera and don't have it yet although, my understanding is you can only adjust the recording resolution and the mic sensitivity with the software. The lighting is something that is adjusted automatically based upon what the sensor picks up on the camera. I plan on making a review of the camera once we get some snow.

The SD card won't have an affect on the video quality. You can use any standard Micro SD card up to 2GB or any Micro SDHC card up to 32GB of any class. Lower class cards are just going to give you a longer wait with transferring a large video from the SD card to your Hard Drive.

improperly formatted cards can effect the image...sometimes a crazy purple even.

my first run...wasn't impressed with the pic...light sensor cycling..causing flashing...horizontal lines during one cycle? Mount broke when my helmet fell in the trailer.

turned off a few times from branches brushing the switch...it is nice to turn it on with one swipe

might not be the camera for me
