First ride Mountian horse rmz450 gearing

Well maiden voyage for the mountain horse rmz450 have to say timbersled really has made a great product what a blast. Second have to say on the trail the 6" ski sucks bad i have never fought something so hard out of control. Sucks because due to poor snow conditions in the low country have to trail ride for 5 miles to get to good snow. I sure wonder when my 10" ski will show up. Well to get to the point instructions say 13 tooth sprocket only. My bike has a 4 speed and came stock with a 14 tooth. I bought a new 13 tooth like a good boy and swapped it out. I find on mountain horse i use 3 and 4 gear 99 percent of the time and when i need to power up something use second first seams useless. What is the drawback to the 14 tooth? Why cant it be used?

I think they say a certain size sprocket because they supply a fixed length chain. If your willing to cut down a new chain then you can use a different sprocket.
As for handling, get off the groomed and onto the stuff on the sides.

Try swapping the gears in the chain case...that will give you more top speed and make first and second more useful. Just pull both sprockets and swap top and bottom... On my KX 450 I'm mostly using 1st and 2nd in the powder with this gearing...sounds like your internal gear ratios are quite a bit different. The gearing is a little too tall for the KX with this setup but the track speed is better before hitting the rev limiter and it climbs significantly better. Some guys are going 1-1 on the gearing in the chain case...using the same size sprockets top and bottom (17-17) or (20 - 20). That's what I'll be trying next.

groomed ha this is wyoming lucky to get the parking lot plowed only place you can ride when you launch is on the road not enough snow to cover rocks and brush untill you get a ways up there but by golly better buy that sticker so you can pay for plowing and grooming

Had the same problem on my WR could not fit the chain with the 13 tooth had to go to a 12 tooth for a while and that was way to low. If you swap the gears in the case it is usually to much for deep snow but great on firm conditions.
After a few rides my chain had worn in enough to go back to the 13 tooth, the one tooth up on the frond was perfect for all around riding.
At times we use a used chain and cut it down to get enough length to go to the bigger frond sprocket. Had to do that just the other day on a 530.
I would try that before going to crazy on changing stuff it might work.

cut a old chain down no dice with bigger sprocket by the time you get chain tight its hitting the track.I will just ride it a few times then i will swap i guess kinda makes me a little worried because there isnt alot of room between idler and track does not give much room for stretch
