First ride melt down

I took my 07 800r out late friday for a little test ride from the cabin, warmed it up for about a 1 1/2 miles and opened it up and promptly locked up! I got it home and this is what I found, it looks like it has some debris banging around and dinged the piston and head, the cylinder is trash! There are small chunks imbedded in the piston that are made of what appears to be steel (it sparks when I grind it). The crank appears to be fine .001 run out and rotates fine, I did notice that the reed blocks rubber was tore at the corners? any help would be appreciated.

I would at least split the cases and really inspect the crank bearings. Even if it seems to roll over fine. Its not that hard to split the bottom and while you are there you can freshen up the isoflex grease. should be done every 2000 miles anyway. you could be loosing a crank bearing and you'll be really mad if you throw a top end at it and it goes down again soon. And remember that the 07 cases are suspect to a tolerance issue so get them checked out by a reputable shop before you put a remanufactured crank back in it.

Not sure if it was you but i read where someone was running 520N jets,FYI N jets are aprox 4 sizes smaller than noted, The N jets reference flow not jet hole size. And its about the same size as a 480 regular jet.

Not sure if this is your problem but old fuel is bad for engine. Even if you add stabilizer, after six months the old fuel is worthless. Even after adding new fuel at start of year the carb bowls and the fuel lines are still full of old fuel and one should take some serious put put time to burn it all off before braaaping the engine. You can always tell when the new fuel kicks in. Detonation from old fuel.

Did you clean the top of the piston off at anytime before removal?
If not...how about a closer picture of the top of the piston...

I would listen to cjgodden, I had the exact same thing happen to my 800R last season. Those marks on your piston and head were made by pieces of your crank bearing, guaranteed.

I agree I am going to get a factory rebuild engine by the time I buy a rebuilt crank have the cases line borded the cylinder replated new pistons and gaskits I would be into it about $2,000 and a factory factory rebuild is $1400 and I can have it in a week!
Thank for all the input.

I just picked up my "factory rebuild engine" it looks like its an NEW Engine I started to put my parts back on and noticed that the holes for the reeds on the cylinder and the holes for the ignition pickups on the case where not tapped. This engine has never been installed or rebuilt! It turns out the guy at the Ski Doo shop quoted me the wrong price the list price was $1950.00 thay cut me a deal for $1750.00 and no shiping. I ordered it on Saturday an had it on Wensday not bad! Should be ready to shred this weekend.
