first ride after switching from m8- need some setup advice-too much ski pressure

so had my first ride on my new 2014 pro rmk yesterday and it was pretty fantastic other than i just need to do some setup. i loved how easy it was getting on the snow (ill be happier after break in when i can beat on it some more) but one thing that im not the most fond of is the front end feels very planted like too much ski pressure. i like a lighter front end feel that is really easy to initiate side hill. im considering going to 36" front end but would like to play with my shock setup first. my front skid shock only has 4-5 threads showing so id imagine i crank that up a little to create more ski lift?

I would add a little preload to the front track shock and take a little off the on the ski's. I think you will be really happy without going to a 36" front end if you just mess with it a little.

I made similar adjustments this past weekend and it seemed to help. I did just as you are thinking and added preload on the front track shock. I also decreased the preload on the rear and the skis. Mine is an assault so I also added a sway bar. the combination seemed alot better but more set up snow will tell the rest of the story

I think the 36" is a lil to thin in my book, I'm loving the Pro setup coming from an 08 XP. I've even centered the ski on spindle instead of going all "In"

Setting the springs as described above will help you out. However don't expect to be able to stand it on its tail at will like an M8. The pro's don't wheelie like them or the xps. Which is a good thing most of the time. Get some more seat time and I think you will love your new sled.

The Pro does not transfer weight the way you're used to, increase the front track shock a bunch, loosen the rear shock as much as you can without bottoming and back off the front shocks until the spring retainers are about to fall out and ride. It is the most planted sled ever made, this actually makes it a little boring to ride, but it will climb great and sidehill like a dream.

Felt the same way coming off my M. IMO don't stray to far from the recommended factory setting and get used to it. The sled just flat works like it is.
Halfway through last year I did do a "Carls" cut on the factory grippers and I felt it helped to get the sled on its edge.

What were the snow conditions? What exactly didn't you like? Hard steering effort, hard to get up one one ski?

Bout 8" snow on firm base. Steering was fine. Was just harder than I'm used to to get the sled on edge/one ski and hold it there

Back the springs down on the ski shocks til there is only a couople of threads of pressure once the retainers are solid against the springs. Too soft for my liking, but that is how most prefer them. Makes it very easy to lay one over on it's side. That or a set of tripple rate springs. Best of both worlds. Soft initial, and yet still will take a big hit.

Play with it just as stated. With the Carls evol kit, my 11 would get around on one ski for miles with little effort, either side. 39 width. Can be done on the chassis. But the chassis, stock skid and track really conspire to resist big weight transfer.

^^^ all good ideas
did you set the skis to the narrowest setting ?
sway bar ?
like others have said may take a little gettig used to pretty soon you'll be driving down the trail on one ski for fun
and...... you will be ruined like all of us who can't ride any other sled :face-icon-small-win

Set it up per the settings in the service manual for your sled and weight, then make minor adjustments from there to dial it in to your liking
