First ride 50th Anniv. Summit this weekend

Rode my new 50th Anniversary Summit this weekend. For those who don't know what the 50th is, basically it's an X-model with black powder coated tunnel, special emblems and color, and a tall windshield ...which was the first thing to get replaced. I have an HPS can for it, but that won't go on until I break her in fully so I can see (feel) the difference between stock and after market.

How'd it do? Awesome! Clutch was set up at clicker #4, and after riding it around the Hood on the roads for about five miles, I set the clickers to #3. On the trail and deep powder, it pulled strong and I never saw it go over 8200-rpm, and held steady at 8200 when at WOT. Conditions were 2-feet of fresh powder at 10 to 10.5K-feet, temp was between 22 and 25 deg F.
Temp gauge was showing between three and four bars, with four bars most of the ride. MY 08 ran at three bars all last season, but then again I didn't add the temp gauge module until after break-in. Do the 09's and or 50th come with the temp gauge standard, or was that something my dealer added?

Broke trail most of the ride for some 600 and 550 sleds, and never did I feel like there was anything not right with the clutch, other than feeling like the sled is geared down slightly from my 08 Summit-X, again maybe a perception since the motor and everything is tight during break-in? All but one time, the primary was warm to slightly hot when I opened up the side panel to check.

Finished the ride with 53-miles on the odometer, and two bars on the fuel gauge.

Problems: New secondary adjustment requires a 3-mm Allen wrench, which wasn't in the sleds tool kit, good thing I checked before the ride and grabbed one from my tool box before leaving home.

Ski Doo 50th anniversary

Stoked you got out on your new ski doo 50th. Mine is sitting in my garage waiting for it to snow more. The 3 mill Allen head tip was gold. I had not noticed. Thanks and i hope to keep seeing your post so i know what to expect and tips on a better ride.

Those 50th's are a sweet looking sled!!! So light to pick up front and rear!!! Sounds like you had a great day and good observation on the 3mm.... Nothing worse than not having enough tools or too many.... I fall into the later catagorey and usually take my pack with tools off before a Duel.... LOL

Enjoy that machine and I hope the big chrome Ski-doo letters don't get ripped off too soon.....:D

Just a quick question.... Did you notice any bubbling on your tunnel...?? I was inspecting a good friends sled and noticed back on the top of the tunnel there was a bubble from some poor prep. before powder coating?

I know they have a good warranty but will this be covered? I doubt they will fix it and to replace the tunnel just seems insane....

I have a VE tunnel and Mike undercooked the specific paint by 5 min's and it's been peeling for a couple years.... I love to say it's a nice Camo peel when I'm called on it but honestley I've grown to dislike Powder Coating and think Anodizing may be the way to go?

Did anyone ever figure out how the 50th weighed less with all the powder coating?

The extra warranty is sure nice especially with the clutch's on the XP's.....

Enjoy that sled it is a Beaut!!!! I'm jeallous....

:):beer;

I looked mine over real good, and there's no flaws in the powder coating, just some over spray under the tunnel where the heat exhangeres are. To be honest, it looks more like a thin coat of paint to me. All the powder coating I've ever seen was alway applied thicker and had a little texture to it. This stuff on my sled is almost like glass smooth, but more of a satin or semi-gloss look. I hope the powder coating help with keeping the snow and ice from sticking, we'll see what happens when the temp drops.

I too was thinking about those big letters on the side panels getting ripped off by a tree branch, even had one that was starting to peel up (flat letter on curved surface), but pushed it back down and it stayed. My buddy commented that they don't have problems on cars with those type of letters falling off, and I'm thinking ...do you drive your car throught the tree's?

The spec. actually shows the 50th is 2-lbs heavier than the X. Makes sence to me because that tall winshield is over a pound, plus the weight of the powder coat.

My sled is #349 out of 600.

Thinking about adding some black Better Boards, any thoughts on those?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHATS WITH THE ALL BLACK FRONT END.(PAN ETC.)?....THE 50s ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ALL YELLOW WITH BLACK TUNNEL ONL?????/ The yellow side panels did not match, in fact they clashed. If they would have been the shiny dark metallic yellow like the hood it would have looked good. They we're a light dull yellow.I was very dissapointed when i first saw it!I like the black alot better.

cool......i am thinking of doing the same.........and add r&m vents....glad i got to see one already done.....picking mine up next weekend........thanks for warning me about the mismatched panels

Looks exactly like an 08 except for the tunnel
It looks quite a bit different than an 08 to me, the 08s had gray side panels. The yellow on these is alot darker than 08 with mettalic in it.

hope they didnt cost much more than the regular 09 XP.
I am not happy about the extra cost for what I got.I did get a nice leather jacket though!

After taking the tall windshield off, I was stuck with some holes. I looked high and low (ACE Hardware, Home Depot, etc.) and couldn't find any plugs. Went to NAPA and they had 3/4" differental plugs made out of black rubber, same as the grommits. They work great, but wish they were a little more flush fitting. They stick up about 3/16" above the plastic.
