First Avi experience yesterday- NW MT

Went out yesterday, had a great day riding in about 24" of fresh powder on top of 36" of base. We found a good play area that we had been to three other times this year, cutting tracks all the way in.

Our group had 7 riders, all of us had made some passes up the hill, doing our best to get higher than the other guy. we were sitting at the bottom of the run, one of our guys was coming down from a climb and side hilling to where we were, looked up and here it came! we were about 150 feet out of the path of the slide, and to the right of us a guy on a mountain horse comes rippin by, looks up and see's the slide. he makes a hard left and headed into the trees WOT! and disappeared.

all of our group was accounted for so we headed to the slide area and started yelling, and made contact with the mountain horse rider, who had made it about 100 yds into the trees and got stuck in a creek.

i was in awe about the whole thing, how fast it came, how quiet it was, and how scary avi's can be.

and to top it off had to tow out a polaris 20 miles, dummy broke a chaincase tensioner for the second consecutive ride... he grabbed a handfull of brake at WOT and bang!

had to share, dont really want to tell my wife, she worries enough as it is. hehe i guess the avi pack for christmas and pieps iprobe were hints that she worries

Avy near georgetown

I had my first real experience with an avalanche also on Jan 1st. Did not end so well. One of the guys we were with was buried and did not make it. Same deal had been playing in an area for a while then an avalanche. It was also in an area I would have not suspected.
