Fire !!!! 2008 RMK Shift 600

We had our 2008 Shift RMK 600 start on fire and can't seem to see a reason for it. It appears to have started from below the muffler and it has burnt the belly pan, side panel, hood, console, wiring harness, chain-case cover and damaged the oil tank. It was minus 25 * C and it was idling after a lengthy run down a 2 mile stretch. We have insurance for the repairs but are starting to hear of other similar stories. Just wanted to know if this is something that is common and if so what is the cause. If anyone has any ideas I would like to hear them . Thanks.

Sled is completely stock, Thought of the brakes at the time but was able to put my fingers on the brake rotor immediately after fire so I would rule that out as well. Thanks guys .......

If it wasn't the brakes, give a good look for pine needles, leaves or other debris remains under or near the can.

It probably started by the chaincase cover caught on fire, from the can getting to hot like red hot..I have a 08 600 rmk not a shift.. seen my can gettin glowing hot even with a SLP can on it..It runs better if you have a 1.25 track on it pulls better..And seen my chaincase on fire b4..

There is almost no clearance between the chain-case cover and the stock silencer on this sled so that may have been the cause. Just don't want to fix it and have it happen again...

i had a spring come off the muffler on my 08 d8 and it let the muffler move around and it burned a hole in the belly pan. didnt catch on fire but i could see where the plastic was dripping so i know i got lucky.
