finally found something just as fun as sleds!

spent a total of 5 days in whistler. epic is the only way to describe it. surpassed all expectations and hype. well right up to the point when i wasted my shoulder. at 0:49 of the first vid you can see the jump i crashed on a day later. separated shoulder, slight concussion, chipped tooth, bit tongue, badly bruised knee, ect. and i had full body armor on. good thing or i don't think i would be walking. shortened my riding but it will heal. simply epic, can't wait to go back. most fun i have ever had on two wheels.

i am still rockin the polaris, a new pro in fact this year. although i think i need a second one with some boost added. probably won't happen. not with the new boy due in a few weeks. but more importantly, yes the DH biking is complete insanity. although the wife isn't overly excited about me getting into something else that leave me bruised and battered. yup, dirt does hurt.

Hey, that is awesome!!

Thanks for sharing.

Looks like a blast. But the biggest difference between it and sleds would be the ability to change lines and such like we can with the sleds. But for a summer time sport. GREAT

I have always wanted to do down hill, but sadly there aren't big enough hills in Nebraska to do it on :(
Looks like i'll have to stick with xc and dirt jumps

If i had that in my backyard I'd be there all the time......

thanks for posting.

what did it cost to do? is a park or business?

yeah, it is definitely the funnest thing to do in the summer. keep in mind that was the second day we were there. we ran out of video for the third and forth days and we were going a lot fast and a lot bigger by then. and you should see some of the other guys out there. make us look like pussies! hence the reason my shoulder is now in a sling. i haven't added it up yet but i think the total cost of the trip was less than a grand for 5 days. that of course doesn't include the bike which i have about 5 grand into. a single day lift ticket is $53, condo was $100/night, rental call ended up being around $100/day, bike case was $90/week, bike shipping was $100, then food, and misc. stuff. used air miles so the ticket was less than $100. well worth the money. although i did have to pay $1000 at the clinic for my shoulder but luckily i bought extra insurance before the trip for 25 so i should get that back.

You need to get a dirt bike! You could ride trails like that all day, but instead of getting on a chairlift and going all the way back up you could turn around and ride up it, having just as much fun as you did when you were going down!

i have a dirt bike. love to ride my dirt bike. i've had it in all kinds of crazy places in alaska. this is better.

I had enough of the self power by the time I was 16, But it was a blast then. A few of us go places on dirt bike the same way we do on a sled. But it is very limited to where you can go these days. But Starting at the bottom of a small canyon and trying to get out the top is a blast.

Saw your post on MTBR, good stuff! Sucks you got hurt though... pretty par for the course riding DH though!!

You need to come to CO next, not quite Whistler yet, but we've got some amazing terrain here!

Funny you're posting DH vids on here, and I just posted some sled pics over there...:face-icon-small-win

Btw, WYO... it's not self powered, it's gravity powered, no comparison!! The difference between riding DH & riding regular cross country is like comparing riding mountains to riding trails!!

We need to learn how to do tailwhips on a sled though...

Of course, I've already got THIS trick down...

Exactly. i can have fun doing both or either but i'd much rather be in the mountains on either a sled or a bike. didn't see the sledding pics on mtbr, i'll have to check them out. getting hurt does suck. worst part was i missed a full day of riding at whistler. guess i just need more practice... better go back soon...

backcountryislife, is that a hard tail or a dh bike you have in those pictures?
i looks like a hard tail but can't really tell?

Most of those guys are running 4-7" bikes SX trail, bottlerocket, voltage FR... bikes like that. Looking at one pic it looks like a rocky mtn slayer (I could be off, it sure looks like one) Don't think I saw a single hardtail the whole time.

the dirt jump crowd runs hard tails. they get better pop off the lips i guess. you might have seen one of those but other than that it is all 6+ inch bikes. probaby saw more dual crown than single even.

nice !!! what kind of bikes you got? if you got a pinkbike acount add me up cbc24 heres some pics from last weekend :
