Fill me in on The Wildlife Conservation Society

I've been asked to give them info as a landowner via Cornell U., I'm highly suspect of their motives but they've been really reasonable to correspond with so far.

If you take a look at this link, it will give you an idea of what they are working on in Idaho. THey have worked to get some roads closed to create "Wildlife Corridors" to protect wildlife from Human interaction. This is just what I have seen with a few minutes of research. They aren't coming out and saying that they oppose motorized recreation, but I get the feeling that they do.

They also seem to have a somewhat balanced outlook as well. The following was also taken from there website.

"For WCS to be successful in its mission to save wildlife and wild places, our conservation work must benefit people as well as animals. Directly or indirectly, we all depend on Earth’s resources for our livelihoods and our survival. People around the world fish, farm, log, and hunt for food, shelter, and other necessities for their families and communities. However, these resources are finite. If we harvest and use them in unsustainable ways, the resources we need will eventually run out.

WCS conservationists work with community leaders and members to develop ways people can use their land and water to generate income while promoting natural resource conservation. We help local people create new agricultural products and practices, modify fishing techniques, generate ecotourism revenue, and provide recovery aid to areas devastated by violence and natural disasters. Investing in the current and future quality of life is the key to sound conservation practice."

I am personally on the fence about this group. I will have to read more when I have a little more time.

as a landowner in Island park....i received their questionare regarding my opinions on land use and animal protection.

I wrote a letter back with the blank form asking them to worry about things a little closer to home and let us here in idaho worry about what is best for our land. If you read the questions, you can tell how the data will be spun based on the answers you have to chose from.

"leave me the hell alone" was not one of the choices on the question regarding donating a piece of your land for animal conservation.

Haha, I wasn't quite as blunt but I wouldn't answer the loaded questions either. The surveyer (Heidi) was pretty cool actually, she says they're involved because they have an office in Bozeman, they're surveying the Big Hole area too.

I e-mailed back and forth, politely declining the survey but giving lots of Western greenie ratings to include in her report. I also told her she should come out with a clipboard and interview happy people recreating instead of counting on the professional protesters who spread their hate and discontent from the wifi area of their favorite Latte' shop.

I was told they have about a 25% return on the survey and 3-4 people who feel like I do, I wonder if KHaddon was one of them?
