Fiber glass sucks!

i was chillin at the fire station when we get a call for a man down in a empty CLO2 tank. Get on seen and get told that the dude it on a scafolding 4 stories up in this huge tank. the guy was sand blasting the inner liner of the tank off which was Spun fiber glass. I was in that damn tank for over an hour and there was fiberglass shards everywhere just sparkling in the air. long story short. Couldn't sleep last night inched so bad. lungs and throat hurt and eyes burn. I hate that crap!

I was told that the fiberglass will work it's way out of my lungs in about 4-6 weeks!:eek::confused:

you weren't wearing a mask?

If your skin is still itching, best way to get it out is to double-over duct-tape and pat your skin with the sticky side. It's not 100%, but it's the best way. Also, super hot water and lava soap or orange pumice hand cleaner.

You were in a IDLH atmosphere without SCBA??? Who's your officer and he needs his A$$ kicked...a few times. What you're experiencing could have been avoided... so no whining allowed! :D The fiberglass usually works its way out.... with the tumor removal. :eek: Hope the rescue went okay:beer;

No mask really....should have went in there like it asbestas or had abatement equiepment....No fun.

Hope you feel better.

I started to pack up and as we where about to go in was told to lose the back and but on this N95 dust mask and check out the patient. The contractors that where working on the project had told us that an M95 mask was up to standards for what we where working with. that may have been the case but i still think i could have done just as well fitting into and moving around in the tank with my pack on . We had fresh are pumps set up and a sniffer in and out side of the tank. the other department i work for also showed up to help. it worked out well.

did pretty mu ch what i could in the situation.The first two guys just jumped in the hole with no fresh air system set up or even dust masks. I wasn't about to do that.

That is some serious dedication to helping people out though, might now be smart but they were trying to help:beer;:D I would have been happy to have them boys try to help me out.
