FFL and Class 3 firearms...

FFL (Federal Firearms License) come in several different categories.
In short it means your a reseller or a manufacturer.

A Class 3 weapon (Destructive Device) means that you have applied and received the federal tax stamp that allows you to own one of these weapons after having jumped through a series of "hoops".

A suppressor is a good example.
Many stores here in Idaho Falls stock and sell a wide range of suppressors for rifles and handguns.

You go into the store, purchase the suppressor, then fill out the paperwork for the "Tax Stamp" submit it and WAIT for approval. Once approved you return to the store and pick up your new suppressor.

But your ability to acquire that tax stamp varies WILDLY bases on WHERE YOU LIVE in the USA.

here in Idaho its a piece of cake. In many places it utterly impossible to get it though!

=========

A Federal Firearms License (FFL) is a license that enables an individual or a company to engage in a business pertaining to the manufacture of firearms and ammunition or the interstate and intrastate sale of firearms. Holding an FFL to engage in certain such activities has been a legal requirement within the United States of America since the enactment of the Gun Control Act of 1968.

So how hard is it to get these?

What's the difference betweeen a FFL and a Class 3?
I know what a Class 3 is...but I've never heard of a Federal Firearms License (FFL).

Wow I am impressed this Chris's knowledge. It is easier to get an FFL if you have a storefront Scott. I am actually opening a store soon and will be getting one. However, I am waiting until I have my store front to apply. You can apply to sell out of your house, but they are giving fewer of those out. I hate the feds...they shouldn't even have their hand in this...but...

The suppressor is the main issue for me. That's where I am going with this conversation.

Thanks for the info.

I think there is a guy around the Potomac (East of Bonner) area that can get you hooked up with all the paper work and suppressor. It is all on the up and up too, I guess. I want to say the guy who mentioned it to me said it was around $800.
