fbomb track mod

Run screwws into the lugs at about halfway down to stiffen them.
I think there may have been some trimming going on too.

no for your PRO it's simply lopping off the nubs and taking your track down to 2.1"ish where it should be as the most efficient combo of traction and propulsion for that buggy in most conditions...screws are step two and not needed as universally for your PRO as they were for IQ RAWS (even though the experts claim the 5.1 is unchanged)

what is it? a trim job

what does it do? improves your PRO for free

If you put screws in as you suggest, or put them in the Assault track, do you have to protect the tunnel at all?

I run screws in the PRO setup but not in line with the coolers...up front they don't touch but you MUST have a maximum of 2.1" or you will walk off of the drivers and have damage..screw setups only down the middle where the coolers don't come into play...or you can rivet hyfax down the center for protective blocks if you want a longer lug ...anytime anything hangs up your performance is drastically reduced.

I have no use for an assault track....:face-icon-small-hap sorry

Maximum height of 2.1" lug you are saying? No use for the Assault track and yet it sounds like you are making one out of the 5.1 track...

It won't be as stiff as the comp track (not even close) and by loosing the "tips" or "fingers" your just stiffening it a little. I did this on mine and no difference in powder riding but did pick up some traction on set up snow. Your basically loosing the little "fingers" that tend to flex and loose traction on a harder surface.

If you do some research on here, you'll find a lot of good info. I was leery right way as well but after doing the reading and now riding it, no regrets.

Skeld if I took a set of BF GOODIE mud and snow tires and lopped off the lugs would that be like making them a racing slick for my asphalt PRO COMP car? NO OBVIOUSLY IT WOULD NOT.....

There is a lesson in that scenario for you.

The Assault track has a single and sole purpose. It was designed for the factory Polaris hill climb group for use to get a STOCK win at Jackson back when the Assault in the IQ RAW platform was released. They are "White's logging boots" when a nice set of light weight Meindl hiking boots would better fit the bill SINCE YOU GUYS AIN"T LOGGERS!

Just got done doing this track mod. After just seeing what it did, it's definitly gonna help with traction, and really doubt it's gonna hurt in the powder. Not that I'll notice anyways.

And if I actually pick up the 5mph track speed that some have claimed, that will be amazing from such a small change.

Took me under an hour! The craftsman tool is without a doubt, the only option I would recommend. I'll post up some pix shortly.

Maybe this isn't what F-bomb does, but it's what I did. Should work great. My lugs were all folded back a lot just from sitting on the track. The "fingers" are so damn soft they just fold and will pull a good portion of the lug with it, especially under power. Lugs are still soft after the cut, but should provide alot better traction in heavier and packed snow conditions, yet still function great in powder. I'd think this will help quite a bit with down hill braking also.

I bought the combo tool pack that craftsman had for $29. You will want the longer one if you want to just buy the one for $19 i think. They're nice cutting tools, and after trimming multiple tracks of different types, this the best tool Ive used. It really worked perfect for this track trim especially.

I did the right half of the track first, then put in a new blade, and then did the left side.

Took a pic of the craftsman tool pack for the part# and such.

I used a carpet knife, the double bladed one,....it was fast....slick and took about 20 mins. Careful though, it's very sharp.

It does cut easily....

I guess I forgot to mention that what I liked best about the craftsman tool was that it just enabled it to be cut accurately even, with very little effort.

Maybe just a knife would work well also... didnt try it on this track. But have been down that road before, and did not enjoy the task I had with the track i used it on.

With the carpet knife it definitely took a steady hand for the first dozen or so then muscle memory kicked in and it was easy. If I had one of those slick cutters, I would have used one. I think I read where people were using a sawzall and the rubber was smoking.........hmmmm must be an easier way.

I know I'm reviving a very old thread but, is this still a relevant track mod?
Anyone still doing it to their new sleds?

It is relevant - I'm super happy with mine and don't see the point in going with a 3" track and new drivers like a lot of newer Pro riders automatically do. One thing that did come up last year was that there seems to be some merit to leaving the center lugs standard height and only lopping off the side lugs. Seems to give the benefit of both without affecting bottomless pow traction. I'd start there and see how it works first but I'm not disappointed with mine by any means.

Have FUN!

I did mine also and to me I lost some performance in the powder at slow speeds.

the sled seems to want to dig down instead of float. Now this is in dry powder not wet snow.

I ran that track set up last year and really never noticed much difference in any conditions lol. Even on ice it spins easy.

I ran a trimmed 5.1 track last year with a turbo. We had some crazy deep snow here in Colorado. The trimmed track hooks up so well. But, I'd say it has a tendency to dig down in the fluffy powder. I'm going to a standard 5.1 until spring and then I'll swap them out for the harder snow.
