Fat Boy Springing an Edge 151

I looking for your input on re-springing my 2002 Vertical Edge 151. Currently the rear skid has the standard .359 spring that came from factory. I am looking to replace the springs to "beef-up" the rear suspension and the largest spring available in a 47 degree angle is the .375 spring. Most 121" Edge skids have the 77 degree spring angle so my question is, what would be the issue of running a fat boy spring (.405) on the the rear skid? I know the degrees are different but would the adjuster take up the difference. Any guidance or expertise would be greatly appreciated!! THANKS!!!!

Run the .405 77*, they work on the softest setting and will be a big improvement in the bumps and in the powder. Limiter straps all the way out on the front arm. All Polaris sleds come with too soft of springs from the factory to please the magazine test riders that have new sleds to test, a couple hundred miles and springs are sacked out no matter how you look at it.

So you can run the 77's ?? I would have thought the 33 degree difference would have made them way stiff??
Have you used the 77's in place of the 47's before??
I'd love to run em if it works. :D

Thanks MARV1 for the information!!! I was thinking the same thing but wanted to check with people that have done it before I go out and buy the fat boy springs.

According to the online Polaris parts site, the fat boy spring part numbers for the same year 2002 Edge 121 as my 2002 Vertical Edge 151 are 7042079-067 and 7042080-067.

.375 47* have more angle which equals more preload initially. This is like installing new springs(77*) and putting the preload on high right from the getgo, some like them, I don't. I tried both, the fatboys just work better overall IMHO.

I think I will try the fat boy springs because I am a bigger guy and can bottom out the skid if I take large jumps. If you have any fat boy springs that will fit a 2002 Edge laying around please let me know. THANKS!!!

Here are some part #'s for those who need them! I did a search on them. Hope this helps others.....

Softest to Firmest. Always use in matched pairs to prevent racking / twisting of the torque arm and rails. The last 3 digits of the base part number will be stamped on the top, near the end of the long leg of the hairspring.

I have .359 -47's on my sled now and the sag (without any weight on the sled it's 3-4 inches). I'm an agressive rider and like to jump. I weight in at 175 ,190 with all my gear and pack, and i carry a 2.5 gallon gas can on the rear. So do you think the fatboys would be to stiff for my wieght ??
I was thinking of going with the .375-47's but I hate to buy them and find out I should have bought the 405's.
So if I bought the 405-77's and set them on the lowest setting do you think that might work for my weight????
I dont like any sag in my suspension. I used to race dirtbikes and I used to set them up with little to no sag in the rear also, It's just a waste of travel in my book. :D
Sorry for all the questions i just like to ask people who have already done this. :D

I weigh the same as you do, was lighter when I had my Edge RMK but carried 5.5gal regularly and the .405's worked great!!!! I don't like sag either, with a too soft of a rear the sled bucks when you hit bumps and collapses easily when you ride in powder which leads to trenching.
Look at the aftermarket skids, they are sprung up and utilize the full suspension travel with minimum sag in. The stock skid works very well when setup properly which includes heavier springs...

Thanks Marv1.
So you used the .405-47s ?
You said you didnt like the .405-77s, right ?
just wanna make sure i get the right angle on springs.
I just had both my rear clicker and front/rear shocks rebuilt so now i just want to get the suspension set up right with no sag and working properly.
did you change the setting on the front strap at all ??
