Farmington Canyon

Got word last night from the Sheriff's office that the canyon is now open too the public, but the FAA will no longer be maintaining the road during the winter months.
Be careful on this road! It sucks 24-7-365!

well thats good, maybe now we can sled from the bottom without hitting rocks if they are not plowing it...

The road has been fixed all the way up. You can now drive it if you want to. Just remeber that the FAA is no longer plowing it so as Phatty stated, park at the bottom and ride up. If I ever go up there again, thats what I will be doing. My guess is that they will gate it at the bottom so trucks cant go up and cause problems for the Sherrifs Office / S&R.

FAA will not maintain the road this year due to the fact they didn't budget for it, however it may still be maintained in subsequent years. Weighing the different costs between road maint in the winter and helicopter access for the techs.

Ha... thats funny.... Even I'd prefer a helo ride to a sled ride to WORK. I had an uncle that worked up at Francis Pk in the 60's. He slid off the road one night in a storm. Took them the better part of 24 hrs to find him. He survived, but had a gimpy leg from then on.

Yea try that...

Farmington canyon is not for the timid. Especially in the winter!!! Super great place, but if they do not maintain the road up that canyon there will be NO winter access in the canyon. Please understand that...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^X2

Lost a few friends on that road over the years.
Have gone over the edge myself.

I am more than confident in my truck and driving capabilities. Even with chains on all 4 corners, I still wouldn't even think about driving that road unplowed.

Just be patient 1 more season.

Two years ago got pushed over the edge by the plow(truck and trailer) the guy pulled me out with his rig but took some digging and two sets of chains. Love riding up there hate the drive.

The gate at the bottom is still closed and locked as of this afternoon. I highly doubt it will be open before spring.

Is riding from the bottom no good? I've never ridden up there and it's been over 10 years since I've even driven up there. What about access from the bountiful road, is it worth it?

Riding from Bountiful is tough. The road also drifts in from that side. You have to ride the ridge line to get over there. The road will be impassable above Sunset Campground if it is not plowed. Even when they do plow it there were times if you beat the plow the road would almost be impassable after a large storm. It's to bad it is a fun place to go ride for a few hours.

I've been itching to get the 900 cat out and run it with all the new parts! Farmington is close to me and a nice place to go for a half day ride without draining the pocket book in fuel. I hope they give access to it soon! Anyone ever want to go up there, let me know, I know a few good areas that are safe.

:closed_2:

I heard more rumors this week, especially today that the gates were open-------They're Not.

I really don't see that happening anytime soon.

But here's to wishing:beer;:beer;:beer;
