Farmington 12-30

yup - The hill in the last three pics has killed folks in the past (AVY) and some have been buried and escaped it's wrath! There is some good video somewhere on here of it unloading big time as a guy climbs out one of the chutes.

I don't mean to "preach" to the "Pastor"... BE CAREFUL BOYS! I can see you weren't climbing the chutes and were staying on the shorter run-outs ..... but please - be careful up there! Those east/NE facing slopes are SUPER precarious right now with the severe wind loading over the past few weeks!

04 Avy pics on that hill....

Someone else posted these in another thread - but when I recognized them thought I'd drag them here too.

exactly what I was thinking..... some brave guys to go on that hill....... brave or ignorant, I just don't know.

looks like 04 was a MUCH better snow year, heck most of those rocks were buried when this huge avy tool place.

Things are starting to set up and get alot safer now.

The day these pictures were taken it was already getting better.

The Avalanche danger is now considerable.

When we were having the avalanches all across the West it was EXTREME.

We might finally be able to do some climbing again.

Pastor if you choose to climb thats your choice. I hope you stay safe. I personally am done climbing anything that can kill me, doesnt matter what the threat level is.

Pastor, did you know that over 40% of Avy deaths occur when the rating is Considerable? The problem is a considerable rating gives people the idea that it "might" be safe. Don't become a statistic just to make a climb up a hill because you think that a day that is rated considerable won't slide. My $0.02!

Be Safe everyone

The snowpack has gained a little strength but it's not near ready for the big slopes. You might get away with a number of them but you might not. (1-7-09, snowboard triggered slide near Brighton).

Here's a clip from the Manti Skyline of a snow test we did on Wednesday. It was somewhat hard to get to release but when it did it went clean. This is the perfect example of where we sit with the snowpack right now.

We need some more patience still this year. We'll be able to get on to the steep slopes again but it may not be for a little bit still. Are you willing to have the next hill climb be your last?
