Fan

Can you run a fan without a battery (off the stator)? I have a 2014 yz450f and wouldn't mind having a fan for warmer days running up the road to the powder or even just late season when it's warm enough and snow is heavy enough that it's difficult to keep the bike cool.

I guess a follow up question would be - does anyone run a fan?

Yes, all my bikes had/have a fan. One of the reasons I went with an fx Yami it had larger (160w) stator and a factory fan. The fan on the fx was fused at 5amps which at 12volt is 60 watts. On your bike I would estimate the fan would require about 45-50 watts. It could cause issues with fuel infection and fuel pump if output voltage of stator drops due to increased load of fan. So, depends on the output of your stator.
I use the fan to some degree most every ride. Long slow pull, slow tree riding etc.

I ran a fan on an 08 RMZ450. It had a radiator mounted thermostat but I also wired it off a switch so I could shut it off while kick starting it or not riding. I wired in one of those little trail tech batteries just for a little more reserve.
