What exactly does the relay doo? Mine went out last week and I waisted $111 at the dealer getting it replaced. After learning the hard way I did some research and bought two replacements from NAPA for justincase. A 30 amp and a 50 amp relay. Supposedly the stock relay is 20 amp, will using the higher amp relay damage the ECM?

NAPA # AR 272 (50 amp)
NAPA # AR 201 (30 amp)
 
30 Hey what is the story with your 30 amp I found a ar 204 and it didnt work tho it had all the same markings.

Skidoo shop charged me 28 for a "doo" relay

I put in the 204 and it didnt work.
 
I have not tested either of the NAPA relays. After limping back to the truck and reading about the fix on this 4M and Dootalk I bought spares. The 30 amp is stashed on my sled in case I need it. The damn thing confuses me I want to know what the amp rating does.
 
My relay went out on the last ride no power to anything and the sled run terrible. Next day I got the AR272 and installed lights and gages came up but i haven't got a chance to ride it yet and see if the was the cause of the motor running poorly. I picked up the skidoo relay from the dealership today for $30.00 and am going to put that in before i go riding tomorrow. Any one got a wiring diagram that shows what all that relay effects when it goes out?
 
I paid $30 for the relay and $72 to install plus tax. I am not too proud of myself and my arse hurts from the dealer. WTF does this thing doo? What significance is the amp rating?
 
with a 30 amp relay you can run up to 30 amps of power through it. A 20 amp allows up to 20 amps of power. A switch for the lights or heated grips can`t handle alot of amps through it without melting the switch. Your grips or lights may require from 10-20 amps to work. Your handle bar switch will send a small current to the relay which will turn the relay on( closes a circuit ) to allow more amps(10-20) for the lights or heated grips to work. I think all relays are hooked up the same so if you know how to hook it up it should only that a few minutes to fix. I forget which numbers on the relay are for what but the break down is: four tabs...one for ground, one for the switch hook up, one for the larger amps in, and one for amps out to the part needing power( ex:lights)

I would go back to the dealer and kick him square in the nuts!!
Do you know your dealer? Have you spent $$ there before?
The relay just plugs in and takes literally 10 seconds to change! Any dealer that would CHARGE ANYTHING to just change a relay they are already making $$ on is worthy of a smack in the balls...JMO-
 
Yeah I agree with Brew. The XP's take a little bit of time but if I guy brings his sled in because it has no lights, guages, fawk all........I put a relay in my pocket, walk outside and climb into the truck box, change the relay and tell the guy he owes me $35(CND rtl) and off he goes happier than a pig in mud. It's happening more often nowadays.
Lordco has the non-sealed units for $10 a piece.
 
I was curious if losing this relay on a 06 800x would cause the motor to go to a full rich condition which I think is what happened to mine. I pulled the plugs today and the were black.
 
Thanks for the input. Guess I took one for the team in honor of BRP.

When the relay fails is sends the sled in a safe mode which limits the RPM and makes the sled puke similar to a powder bog or a frozen carb. Now that you mention it the plugs did go black.
 
Winter Brew has a theory which I agree with on my 06 800. That is the Exhaust valve isnt opening up and runs like crap from mid to top. The computer controles when it openes through a silanoid (sp)
