My Facebook Mobile promoted me to update my mobile app today 6-17-13. As I clicked the update button for whatever reason I decided to read the (Accept) prompt screen that then popped up. I was rather surprised at what popped up in the "fine print" as it were.

These are just SOME of the lovely excerpts contained within... You can't make this kinda stuff up and this isn't a "Share" some moron made. This is 100% real and the excerpts are word for word.

Services that cost you money: DIRECTLY CALL PHONE NUMBERS.

Allows the app to call phone numbers without your intervention. This may result in unexpected charges or calls. Note that this doesnt allow the app to call emergency numbers. (Well thats nice of them...) Malicious apps may cost you money by making calls without your conformation.

Hardware Controls: NEW: Change your audio settings

Allows the app to modify global audio settings such as volume and which speaker is used for output.

Record Audio: (YES RECORD)...

Allows the app to record audio with the microphone. This permission allows the app to record audio at any time without your conformation.

Take pictures and Video's:

Allows the app to take pictures and videos with the camera. This permission allows the app to use the camera at any time without your conformation.

Create accounts and set passwords:

Allows the app to use the account authenticator capabilities of the AccountManager, including creating accounts and getting and setting their passwords.

Your Personal Information:

Modify your Contacts, Read your Call Log, Read your Contacts, WRITE YOUR CALL LOG,

This is just PART of this ****. Anyone that would install this is INSANE this is STEALING YOUR INFORMATION. It is also a VIOLATION OF YOUR PRIVACY. I Promptly uninstalled Facebook mobile from my phone and within the week I will be off Facebook completely.

I have never even Been on face books web page.
I have ways thought that it would come down to something's like this eventually. Just imaging all the people who use that damn web site to validate their existence! Giving up every piece of info about their lives day to day. What Facebook decides to do with all your info has yet to be seen!

But who's to say that they are acting maliciously?
They could just put those setting in there to avoid them asking you every time " can we access your photos" or camera etc…. Maybe it's just for ease of use.

BUT reading it again it specifies "anytime". It doesn't say something to the affect of them only using when you would need it.

Anything is possible I guess. Especially with the patriot act and all. They could be giving all that shtuff to the government to help catch terrorists or whatever they do

Wouldn't it be cool though if you were a missing person, and you were found via GPS on your phone, and while you were taken hostage you were making a randsom phonecall the app took a picture of the criminal.

Not saying I approve of the government taking note of everything I do, just a cool scenario.

am i the only one who thinks big brother is getting carried away??? tracking all your phone calls, drones, don't see how anyone would think even one bit of this is ok!!! i love the bs line "its helping to prevent terroism" what crap. now that they've been caught red handed and they try to use the terroism spin to make it all look ok. well its not...

I Agree with you. It has gone to far!

But so has all this "social network". The government doesn't even need Facebook to
Sneek around for them! Lets say you go camping and take a picture of your favorite camping spot. Unless you disabled the geo tagging option on your phone, that picture will have the exact location you took it at attached to the photo. Then as soon as you get to some good service with your phone, you log onto Facebook to post the camping pictures and tell everyone how great your trip was, what you did on your trip, what you ate every night, what critter you shot while you were up there, how much you drank etc……. Like anyone gives a 5hit!!!!!! All the government would have to do is get a Facebook account, they have all the info on you that they would ever need!! Like I said before. These people use this site to validate there existence! They have to make sure that as many people possible see and hear about what they are doing every minute of every day! Because them just living and doing isnt good enough!! They feel the need to share it All with others via that damn website
