F-Bomb Track Mod - Needed on the Pro?

coming from an IQ and this had some obvious benefits in the IQ chassis. Was wondering what the consensus is on this modification for the stock track on the Pro chassis. Doing a lot of searching and research, most of the discussions around this were around the time the pro chassis was new and not as much over the past year or so.

So wondering, how many are doing this on their new 13's and 14's and is it really needed with this chassis?

thanks guys

My take on it is that the tracks haven't changed (even for '13-'14) and that it's a HUGE help! F-bomb hasn't been on the forums so I think a lot of the '13-'14 owners just don't know about the mod and switch to the Camo Xtrme. Honestly, the F-bomb mod is like doing a mini version of the Camo Xtrme - less lug height but 6-8mph more track speed which makes up for it in Cascade Concrete (but probably not for Rocky Mtn Powder). The one thing we didn't do was add the screws as it isn't needed on the lighter Pro but you may consider it for riding on ice in MN. I highly recommend it - I have no regrets and my sled is noticeably faster on both hardpack and pow. It does take a bit more throttle to pop up in the pow but the trade-off has been worth it. The best mod I've done to my sled behind only the EZ-Board inserts. Highly HIGHLY recommended.

Have FUN!

I didn't notice much difference in deep snow but for hardpack there's a pretty considerable addition of traction imo

Like everyone said its noticeable. I did it on both of my 11's and didn't notice a difference in powder, but it helped in set up snow. Running an X3 on a 13 this season and I'm very impressed with it so far. (Only 1 ride on it) Bang for the buck the f bomb is good since its free!

I noticed a HUGE difference in the tip stiffness of the 2013 and 2014 tracks vs the 2012 I had.

I did the F-Bomb mod to my 2012 and it helped a lot, but the 13 and 14's IMO are stiffer than the 12 was even after I cut the tips off.

It may be the same part number, but I strongly disagree when I hear people state that the track hasn't changed since 2011. The rubber at the end of the lug was noticeably thicker on the 13's and 14's compared to my 12.

I don't think the Mod is as necessary on the newer years.

I did it to my 2011, and I'll be doing it to my '13. I was very pleased with the results, most notably the increased in braking when going downhill.

That's what I notice most also. Breaking down hill. I will say though, now that we have a 2013, and a 2014 we are just going to leave it stock. Ride it like you stole it. :face-icon-small-hap

Mine rear still wants to become my front when breaking downhill... Sucks when it's not deep enough to toss a side down in it and the snow has been scraped off before you

I did my 13 late last spring made a difference on set up snow. I haven't got a chance to try it in powder yet.

I would have to agree, I did the mod on my 2012 but the stiffness of the 2014 I now have seems different. The plan is to put some miles on this 2014 and see if the track looses some of it's stiffness or stays.

After doing it on the 2012, it does make a difference on set up snow and hard pack and I did not see any difference in the powder.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I don't ride much if any around here in MN. Sometimes I"ll ride in NW Wi by the cabin, but usually in either forest service roads in the UP or out west.

Sounds like it's still worth the trim for the Pro's as well. Will plan to cut it down then as well as it doesn't really sound like there are many negative side effects regardless with only potential outcomes from doing it.

Sled is mid-build right now, will post up some pics once it's complete.

What is this fbomb track mod you speak off?

Cutting just the tips of the lugs off, just enough past the tips that they come off in one strip. I also did my 12', would do to any pro that I did not change track on, running a X3 on my 13' or it would've been done also. I used a 4" aircraft grade set of tin snips to do mine. There was lots of talk about a Craftsman tool from sears on here a year or so ago that people were really liking to do the job also. In my opinion no downside at all to this mod.

Sears Handi-Cut

I bought the package deal of a 3" and 4" cutter. The 4" is the only you want as it will reach across the entire lug in one bite. It doesn't hurt to spray a little WD-40 on the lug to let the blade glide in easier. Not too bad at first, but the blade will get a little tacky and the grip starts to wane after 20-30 lugs.

I use the cutters for all sorts of trimming now, so just add it to the toolbox when done. I put the 3" pair in the toolbox in the pickup. Lots of things need trimmed now!
