F-bomb track mod in Washington

I did a search for this and came up empty, so has anyone done the F-bomb track mod in Washington state? Particularily for the Pro but also Dragon's. Just wondering how well it works in our cascade concrete.

Yep, did it on our 08 D7 155 and 08 D8 163, I'd highly recommend it.

The trimming allows for better snow penetration and the screws help straighten and stiffen the lugs which makes a hugh differnece in our wet heavy PNW snow. Didn't notice any adverse effect in our occasional light dry snow.

I plan on doing this mod to our ProRMKs soon.

Yes DO IT

Did my 2012 pro 163, did not put screws in, don't see a need for them, I rode last 2 days in Salmon la Sac/Gallagher areas in all the new fresh, heavy down low but drier up above, Flat hooks up in the heavier and noticed no powder snow performance loss, even switched sleds with a buddy that has a twin to mine but no track mod, He's cutting his now as we speak. I could go everywhere he did and I out weigh him by a hundred pounds, after he cuts his it'll be back to him having an advantage again. I noticed a track speed increase and about a hundred rpm's give or take, was really tough to see the dash with all the snow.

X2, YES, do it!

I did it on my 06 700 with great results and to my 2012 Pro before it even hit the snow
No screws, just cut off enough of the nubs and about a 1/16" or less of the track so nub and thin track strip all come off in 1 piece

Highly Recommend it!

  • Better hook up on hard pack and icy snow
  • Better braking
  • No performance loss at all in the deep stuff
I actually think you get better performance in deep. More room for the tunnel to evacuate snow. Just guessing, but i think its worth 50 - 150 RPM's when you need it most.

Did it to the 07 600 a couple years ago and it worked awesome. No screws installed. No loss in Mccall powder when over there. Gonna do the 163 next. I used a utility knife with a hooked roofing blade adn it took about 30 minutes.

I have done 4 of them. Easy to do. I cut with a carpet knife and kept spraying the knife with silicon. It cut like butter. Power driver for the small screws and you are done.

Pros: Hooks up better.
More room for snow evac. so better track speed.
The function of the screws is to stiffen the track, without you are doing a minimal difference IMHO.

Cons: Track can tear paddles easier. If you ride spring conditions or go thru rocky areas it pulls at the screws and causes some paddle rips that you just would not have seen without.

Camoplast changed to a slightly harder durometer for the Pro's 5.1 track vs. the Dragon's so no screws necessary now! I confirmed this with Carl's and even Rob (F-Bomb) is not adding screws to his Pro's cut 5.1 track.

Have FUN!
