Has anyone out there mounted an ex ryde rear suspension on a Hawk? I'm running a 159" Hawk and there is a lot of skid behind my lower swingarm pivot. The ez ryde looked to solve that issue...

looking through the hawkfest pictures I see there are a few hawks running ad bovins zx2 suspension,looks like it mounts like a traditional sled skid,anyone have any feedback or info on set up and performance and opinions on benefits and drawbacks..
I've heard some good things about the E-Z ride. Shouldn't be to hard to put one in and try it out.
The only drawbacks I see is getting the spring rates right. The Hawks are lighter than a sled.
My ZX2 works great, as long as I'm riding double, otherwise it's pretty stiff.

you better talk to someone thats done it.. the two I know of are taking them off in favor of stock setups.. they where very disappointed..
however,
looks like sledr2 has it and is happy ..it could be a tuning issue.
Ill bet you can get a good deal from a few guys on here..

I think you rather your skid/suspension design over the ZX 2 don't you Sledr2 ?
Other than the fact that it's plastic, I really don't see anything revolutionnary with the ZX 2. One simple adjustment at the back of the 2nd parralel arm and conventionnal limiter straps. A guy could probably design something out of aluminum that's as light and will collect less snow... and definatly come up with a better geometry as far as swigning the track and getting her not to get tight or loose throughout the travel.
The thing with pretty much all of the aftermarket suspension skids is they still design them with the gool 'ol falling rate lever action on the shocks. Yes you can overcome that with some tricky goodies (like special internal piston design and a special special valving that goes with it, a stack of 2-3 springs or a progressive spring...) and with the help of someone who knows what he's doing but every motorcycle suspension specialist will tell you that a falling rate action on the shock is a design flaw, period. But no matter how hard you'll only be able to overcome so much and hit one of the targets. You won't get that plush/progressive feeling you'd get on a dialed motocross suspension.
That's why I'm coming up with my own design, a 37% rising rate action on one single 46mm Showa Shock. Looking forward to throw her in sometime this fall when I'll get the parts !!!
As far as design on these falling rate suspension, I think the EZ ride is nicely done.
