EXTREME ENGINE BRAKING ??

I'm running a 17 SBA 800 and have around 1200 miles on. From new I've noticed that every now and again when letting off the throttle it's like the engine looses power abruptly but when I come on it again it works just fine.

Then last weekend instead off completely releasing the throttle I slowly backed off from about 3/4s to 1/3 and the engine abruptly dropped in power and would not pick up until I completely let off and reapplied the throttle.

I'm thinking it's the power valves. I know it's on warranty and I should have my dealer check it out but this doesn't happen very often, maybe once per ride at the most so they won't be able to reproduce it. No codes show up either.

Anyone else experiencing this.

How to resolve?

The valves do need to be cleaned for sure at 1200 miles. Usually it will throw a code but not always.

You could also have an issue with the secondary.

Also have you adjusted your secondary belt deflection?

Check the throttle freeplay, first. FrequentFlyer could have nailed it. Beyond VES, could also be TPS, fuel pump, etc. Does it backfire at all?

I did not have much time to reply earlier but I said TSS because I had the same issue. I adjusted the throttle freeplay at first and it seemed to solve it, but then I noticed it was idling high (did it in the field when I was having issues on the fly) Later I noticed the throttle block was iced up, knocked the snow out from between the block and the flipper and re-adjusted the throttle free play back - all has been fine since.

My symptom was breaking trail and once in a while when I would let off, it would lose power like I hit the kill switch, grab the throttle a little and it would come back. I need to bypass the TSS and throw a tether on.

If you like to roll your sled over to get it unstuck, the Axys will be a lot more prone to this issue.

I expected to see some pics of a grenaded 800 when I opened this. You know, worse than the old dragon days.:face-icon-small-coo

I don't think the throttle play is too slack but I'll definitely check it. It's not from freezing up for sure. It only seems to happen when trail riding at above half throttle when backing off. The breaking feeling is very noticeable and momentary.

exact same symptoms I had - good luck, hope that is all it is. When you are checking the cable tension, remember that the cable should pull the flipper back snug against the block, and only adjust it with the barrel adjuster up near the kill switch. Also, when you separate that boot, it sometimes inverts the bottom of the boot and makes it difficult to get the boot back together (top and bottom half don't seal back up together like they are supposed to). I've had to stick a tiny screw driver down through the boot to un-invert the bottom of the boot to get it back together correctly.
