Extreme Bumper, extremely crappy!

Just bought a Polaris Extreme Bumper at my dealer. Man the workmanship on this thing is horrible. I actually looked at 3 and picked the best one. The "best one" has welds that look like an industrial arts 7th grader did on his first pass. The mounting points are just the ends of the tube stamped with a bolt hole. The finish is a brushed style and seems ok. The front impact tube actually had waves in it on the 2 I rejected, the one I got is much better. The tubing is really light and I doubt it's 6061 or something good. Polaris should be ashamed. If you care about stuff like this I would only buy in person or better yet buy something good. Before you ask "why did you buy it then?" I will tell you. I wanted more protection than the stocker and I am going riding this week so for $90 I took it. I will replace it soon. What kills me is I am going to put a black finish on it tomorrow before I mount it so I will actually have an hour of my life invested in this piece of chit along with putting it on and taking it off.

Mine Was the same way. Only i've had it powder Coated, Then went to Install
it And the lower middle tab was 2" Away from Fitting up to the belly pan.
WE had to put a pipe to it and bend it to fit.
It's bad Enough Polaris has to make Knock off's of Others Hard Work....
Then they make it cheap, I wish they'ed step up to 9th graders :faint:

I just bought one too before actually holding one. What a lightweight flimsy pos! I think the stocker is actually more rigid. I had a Skinz on my D8 and that thing was beefy. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this piece of tin yet.

You're right. It's not a really impressive piece of product to say the least. I had to spend quite a bit of time sanding the chitty welds before I polished them. I was concerned with the strength as well so I closed cell foam filled the tubes through four small holes I drilled in the undersides. I am sure it won't take any big hits without being destroyed but it might absorb enough energy to save the sled behind it.

mine was shipped by itself in a plastic bag.
when it showed up half of it was hanging out the bag...:face-icon-small-dis

Maybe you got one of the back ordered ones that was rushed into production? Mine came wrapped in bubble wrap in a plastic bag in a box.
It fit well, its just not the quality or weight of material I was expecting for an OEM accessory.

PS, my vents arrived in Toronto safe and sound on Friday. Look great. Thanks.

I got mine. Ordered it from Babbittsonline.

It fits good but, man what a flimsy piece of tin. I think the stocker is more rigid. I grabbed one side of it and watched it just flex like heck as I pulled on it to lift the sled.

It will be coming back off to put a BM Fabrications bumper on it.

I will post up pictures when mine gets here sometime this week.

I had a a TCP on my 06 and that thing was an absolute rock. Hopefully this B&M one will be pretty solid because I have a tendency to run things over.

Mine came in a box also and looked and fit just fine. Not the strongest thing out there, but should work for deflecting sapplings.

The 2 I bought were perfect, had them powder coated. I expect that it will sacrifice itself upon a major mishap, that's what they are supposed to do. I had a TCP bumper on my 08, and it was super expensive and still needed to be replaced after an impact. I prefer to have a cheaper one to replace after an encounter.

Mine installed fine, but it keeps the side panels from closing all the way. I now have an almost 1/4" gap on each side with the panels fully closed. Sucks to have to take the thing back off and install the stock bumper (not to mention losing out on the cost of the bumper and powder coating).

I have one and it sure is ugly and flimsy, couldn't they at least have painted it black? I am not even sure that the special snow check cover that I bought will fit over it...has anyone tried that?
I will stick with the stock bumper for now.

Btw, mine is for sale if someone wants it ;-)

Had my guys at work paint it black with moly resin. Painting something this bad black was a bad idea, every flaw is magnified. I told them not to waste any real time prepping it for paint as I was going to replace it with something better soon. I don't think they were too happy doing sub par work on a sub par part.

The Skinz Front bumper is much better, thickness, weld quality, and fit. Had mine Powder coated Red to match the side panels on my 11' An arrant tree took out my stock bumper last season:face-icon-small-sho

I've had one of these Polaris bumpers for a few weeks now, just pulled it out when I seen some said it was of poor quality and the welds were bad. Everything looks fine to me, welds look good, it's not out of square, bout all you can expect for $80 I suppose...

Do you want a strong bumper? I am looking for something to replace the POS Polaris Extremely Crappy Bumper. I like the Skinz and a couple others. My buddy told me not to put too burly a bumper on my sled because it can pass to much of the impact into the chassis and knock it out of square. He thinks you want a fairly lightweight bumper that will bend on impact. What do you guys think?

Thats The only good thing about the polaris bumper is the price to replace it when you hit something.
But Yes too strong of bumper would send the impact into the bulkhead.
so just think of them as dissposable :face-icon-small-ton
