Im wanting to pick up a set this weekend at the Puyallup show..
Im reading about guys having to shorten the skid etc, etc..True??
Then Ill need the rail wheel kit from sleder2.. probably not a bad idea anyways..
anyone actually do this to their Hawk??
The shaft looks to be 1.25 with a 2.5" pitch..
Then there are 8tooth 9 tooth 10 tooth??
anyone know the size of stock drivers???
what works and what doesn't??

No need to shorten the rails.
9 teeth 2.52 pitch is stock. Hexagon 1.25" bore.

You have to split the frame to get them in (because they sit closer to the outsides of the driveshaft in order for the extroverts to fit in the window of your track, our frame being 13.5" wide is too narrow and doesn't allow you to tuck it in at an angle) !!!

As CJ said, that's the cheapest way to get your track tightening problem solved !

Can't say about the anti-stab wheel kit if it's abosolutely required....

drivers

Hey I can get you the drivers in a 9 or 10 tooth 9 tooth stock 150.00 a pair. what direction do you need to go to gear down with drivers?

Rip

You just sealed your fate, when you stab that rubber I have a new one with that blue thing you can lease till you get a stimulus grant!

Translation?? Are you saying the extraverts are a bad Idea or that stabbing the track is certainly going to happen..with our without the extraverts.. I remember seeing several hawks last year with stabbed tracks.. Right Dennis??

J&l going to smaller drivers gears you down just like putting smaller tires on your car. But this also creates a issue with how much more the track bends around robbing your HP. The bigger your drivers are the more driver contact you have and less likely to skip your track.;)

That's true IB, running smaller drivers is just like running smaller rear idler wheels. Bending rubber around a tight corner requires more force than a large corner !

Here's one more thing to throw in the equation for mountain /deep snow riders : Let's say you're going one tooth smaller, then the elbow of your tunnel just gained 3/16"-1/4" of clearance... (quite noticeable considering there's only about 3/8"-1/2" stock). On a super deep day where a lot of snow gets processed and pushed through the tunnel, the tighter you are, the more HP that large qty of snow will rob you. The more clearance you have, the easier it is to process a large qty of snow. That, of course, only applies for deep snow days let's say 10" and deeper. If you want to go fast down a hardpack icy trail get yourslef 10 teeth drivers with 10" rear idlers !

Which one will rob more HP, smaller Drivers or less tunnel clearance ? I can't say exactly but it will depend of your condition !!!

9 tooth, 2.52 drivers are very close to 7" in diameter.
My suggestion : go 8" rear idlers and drop a tooth off of your extrovert drivers, you'll end up with a tiny bit more of each and better overall results for the deep heavy wet stuff you'll face in northern WA ! Your gearing will also be changed, putting your Hawk just a bit stronger which will be good for the mountain.

has anybody run 3" pitch??

I will be running a pair on my new 150" skid this year. Choose to go 7 tooth (6.5" diameter) would be approximatly be the same as an 8 tooth 2.52" driver.

Swiss chees your track and it won't be as hard to bend around the wheelz !!!
