Extendable shovel..

S
How often do you guys find the need for the extra length some shovels offer?? I found what could be a good buy but the shovel is a fixed length(2ft i think) Most extendables go to 3ft or so dont they? I dont think its a big deals, as I usually kneel when digging out but I still might just buy a new one and get a saw to, not sure I need one tho...

i rarely ever use a shovel to dig out a sled, and thankfully i have no experience digging in avalanche runout, but i would think the extra length would give you much more leverage when digging in setup avy runout. also at mike duffy's avy class he recommended a shovel with an extendable handle. also look for one where the handle extends through the hole on the shovel blade into the spade part of the shovel. his word is good enough for me considering my lack of personal experience digging in those sort of conditions

the extended handle doesnt really matter in soft snow, you use it as more of a way to fling snow, but i got stuck in some spring snow in a tree well, and lets just say longer shovels are NICE in snow that is not pow>> avy debris.

Ive actually been comparing this one on ebay to the one you posted Powderhound. Throw in the snowest discount and it might be worth to just go at route. Ive yet to need a saw, but cant hurt to have it...

i will wont preach, but voile is the way to go, only shovel there is in my mind. they flat out rock, freakin indestructable!! and dang cheap for how good they are.
