Exploring Eastern Oregon (Blue Mtn - Eagle Cap)

I'm planning a couple of rides to take in some of the great snow over in Eastern Oregon. I'm from out of state (just over the Idaho border), and my wife grew up in La Grande. We pass through Baker now & then, and we both agree its about time we stopped to play in the snow. I'm thinking to start with Halfway and she's thinking we should try Sumpter.

I read something about use permits for in the WW forest, but I couldn't find any details. Are there there are day use permits required (other than the snopark pass)?

Looking at the OSSA trail map for just south of Eagle Cap, I see a trailhead at Forshey Meadow - is there a decent place to park and catch a trail there? Or would I be better off heading to one of the snoparks?

Any other advice? Oh, and thanks for sharing your powder with us.

There are no use permits required on the WW or any other Oregon forest that I know of. All you need is a snowpark permit and a current sled registration. I think there is reciprocal agreement with Idaho for parking.

There is a parking area at Forshey Meadow that the state keeps open it's basically a wide place along the side of the road.

The best sledding IMO is from the Halfway Clear Creek snowpark but there is some fun riding to had in the Forshey Meadow area too.

Have fun
