Exhaust springs

FYI. There has been one case of a broken exhaust that I know of, my dealer is recommending high heat silicone on the exhaust springs. This is something I have personally done on all my previous sleds. The new springs with the plug inside were working good on the Ascender previously but one has failed so far on a Catalyst. A simple easy precaution probably most of you have already done.

I am going to check the installed coil gap. SLP recommends 0.040-0.050 gap between the coils when the springs are installed. To adjust you simply tap the mounting tab adjust the gap. This came from their instructions for on of their single pipe kits for the ascender but probably should apply to the stock pipe since you would reuse the springs when installing their pipe. Also SPI makes silicone sleeves for the springs also. They are available on Amazon

I’ve seen and read a few comments that the welds on the y-pipe tabs are breaking. So might be good to not tap those and only adjust the pipe tabs if needed.

Will do. My buddy has 6 of them. I looked at all of them this morning. All the springs look stretched pretty far. I’m going to look at my ascender gap and adjust them to that thickness

2 Of my springs were flat out broken in half

Agree... I've dealt with broken exhaust springs for years. Cheap insurance to run a bead of RVT silicon on them. Then you don't have to chase down the pieces in the clutch or drive belt assembly with a magnet.
