Exhaust Question for VES 700

I was just wondering if you could take the twin pipes off of an earlier 97-98 700 and bolt them onto the 700 VES motor. I did hear a while back that you could put a single pipe on (stock 97-98) and it wouldn't really matter. I was also wondering, because I'm looking for an exhaust for my sled, however on EBay they have some sets of twins for the price of a can. I've heard that the twins are kinda a pain to dial in, but when you do they rip. I've also heard that when they are dialed in correctly you don't have to touch anything, I've also heard that you have to constantly work to dial them in maybe 5 mins a ride. If I really had what I wanted I'd go with a single because everybody's said they're easy to dial in, always perform great, and not much of a hassle. I've also noticed everybody prefer's SLP to PSI is this because SLP's exhausts are just easier to deal with? I know the PSI's on the old triples made them rip!!! Why SLP over PSI, or have I misread everything?

I believe there is a difference between the angle of the exhaust ports on ves engines and the old non ves. The pipes are bent slightly different because of that, so you would probably have fitment issues switching them between models. I personally like twins, I have never found them hard to tune and cetainly never had to fool around with them for every ride. Dial them in like any other pipe change and ride. I've run psi and slp and both work well, I think psi's would be hard to find these days and that may be why slp's are more common on the ves engines. I'm running psi's on 2 older 700 rmk's and they do work very well.
 
Do you find the twins to be too loud? I do have an older 650 with PSI triples, and that things almost too loud sometimes.
 
Yes they are loud. Too loud?? well without starting the whole loud pipes are getting riding areas shut down argument, I like loud pipes. Fortunately I ride in areas that I am able to still do that. I just bought a new to her sled for my wife, when I was looking it over I open the pouch on the back of the seat and there was about a dozen packs of earplugs, made me smile. :face-icon-small-hap
 
I don't want a loud debate either seeing as I love how the PSI's make the sled scream haha ;) Congrats on the new sled though. Do you prefer the twins just because of the sound (doubtful) or because of the more power? I've noticed SLP's power curves seem that twins are a much sharper curve rather then broader compared to a single.
 
It's all about the power to me. Generally twins will make power at a slightly higher rpm range than a single. The sled I just picked up for the wife is an '06 IQR with one of Brads 1200 W/C triples running crankshop pipes. Those big block triples have a sound all there own. :face-icon-small-win
 
So correct me if I'm wrong but other words twins are more beneficial at WOT right?
 
Yes, if you look at dyno sheets comparing twins to a single on the same engine the single will usually make a few more hp in the mid range and the twins more on top end.
