Exhaust problems

I have an 02 800 with an 04 900 motor. I am having problems sidehilling on the exhaust side. It loads up and wont run until I let it clear out. Any ideas or suggestions?

right air intake just above your foot (small cover with vents) has a mesh filter that gets plugged with snow. try to tape off opening from engine area to that vent, located behind brake rotor. hot air melts snow entering than plugs up. hope this helps.

It is because the exhaust is buried in the snow. On my 1M's i lengthened the front side of the exhaust as it came out of the belly pan. Just so that it gave it a little more room to let the exhaust out. It doesnt fix the problem 100% but maybe get you a 95% trouble free ride. that is y on the m series they put the discharge up and forward into the a-arm and spindle area.

Man this topic has been around since the 03's hit the snow. Thousand's of threads on this.

I feel for ya.

Like others have said, try to extend the deflector a bit and create more of a pocket for the exhaust.

Another thing. If you are a little fat on your jetting it is worse. You need to keep it pretty lean so as it looses exhaust flow it doesn't foul out as easy.

The other thing is just learn to ride with it. I have found after a couple hundred miles I know exactly the conditions and situations that it is going to bog.

It will not bog if it is wound up and running clean. It will keep the exhaust clean. So you need to keep it pinned to run clean at times.

Example. down hill, 2' of fresh, going to make a turn to the right. Prior to starting the countersteer and the pull to get it laid over you need to be getting into it pretty good. Then hold it to the bar and keep the R's way up and it will pull through. If you go into it and start the counter steer and bury the exhaust and have powder up to the windshield you are on your way to stuck.

Long rant but that is the way it is.

You could try a front dump exhaust can and then a speedo air intake into the air box also.

But again run it lean, that helps.

I know I'm alone here but,

''If'' your sled is tuned right it won't bog. Only a too rich condition will bog from from an exhaust blockage of snow. I have never had a meltdown and my sled blows snow away from the pipe. I do however, have a good intake thu the snorkel.

Sorry Thunder, just read your post. Great thinking!

You're not quite alone. I think the jetting makes a huge difference, and then your intake helps some more.

I have some pics of my exhaust deflector. I would post them but photobucket changed stuff and now I cant figure it out.

Figured it out.

Im in FULL agreement! Im workin on a "rich" condition and this sled just falls on its face in the deep. Can barely keep it going... be able to see how she reacts when I can get it leaned out.

Front dump

Just change to front dump. We have some jaws front dump 1m cans in stock

"Just changing to the front dump" can will NOT fix this problem. You need to have it jetted correctly. If it's fat it i will bog.

I do think the front dump can helps.

I didn't have the bog, but I still went to the front dump.

You can see this area is more acceptable for easy exhaust flow. It's louder though.
