There are many different fixes for this. The idea is to get fresh air into your air box instead of hot under hood air. Also. seal up the hole where it exits the pan with some ultra black. Also building some kind of deflector and install it just in front of the exhaust exit. The 03 900 mountain cat came stock with a real nice one that works great for me. Or you can buy a 06 king cat belly pan setup that exits in the shock well. In my experience this helps but doesn't fix it all together. Also if your sled is carbed getting it jetted PERFECT will help. You will get lots of responses to this post. everyone has a different fix for it.
Had the same problem. Still haven't tried a front dump exhaust, which is the last thing I will try since it's pretty expensive.
The thing that helped the most so far was the snorkel out the speedo hole. I still get a bog in deep snow though. I still need to dial in my jetting as well. Previous owner had 480 MAG 490 PTO mains in it when I bought it(WTF?). Riding at 8-10 k, right now I'm at 430 MAG 420 PTO and could probably stand to come down 1 more jet size based on plug color and EGTs. I think jetting is the key. If I can't get it dialed, it's going off a cliff. A few have said try a smaller pilot jet as well so I will try that, maybe it's loading up down low causing it to bog through the powerband? On my sled I have the Black Diamond airbox,which sucks cold air through the front bumper and shock wells and when ever I got into deep powder it would bog and die,it was real frustraiting.
So over the summer I installed the speedwerxs tunnel dump exhaust.
Not only did it fix the cupping problem,sucking exhaust,it also got rid of a mid range sputter I had before with my MBRP can.
It is a little bit of an expensive fix but I am happy I did it now.
