Excessive hyfax wear & ported track?

I was just giving my sled the pre snow service, and noticed that I wore out my hyfax in less then 500 miles last year. This was my first season running a (excessivly?) ported 162" challenger, and also my first season with ice scratchers. I did NOT remove any bogies, but I don't see much point in keeping them as the hifax is worn just a few inches away from them anyways. Has anyone else had this with a ported track? I had 1700 miles on the original sliders with the stock 151". Anything that will help? hyperfax, drilled hyfax, etc?

All stock wheels still in place. I rode mostly Golden, Revy a few times, and a couple river rides around home, but there was fresh snow for those. I used scratchers every time on the trails. My only guess is that the ports are letting so much snow escape that the sliders don't get enough for lubrication.

At this point I think I will ditch the idlers now as I think the wear would be about the same overall, just even.

I doubt the holes in the track acceleratd wear....I would expect the opposite if it had any effect at all. Track tension and limiter strap position will affect hyfax wear, as will the brand/type of hyfax being used.

porting has nothing to do with it, if anything it lets more in.

run that sucker as loose as you can, that seems to help.

if you ever ran tru in any spots, i had it when the clips hit the rails and get sharpened then they just mow the hyfaxes off. other than that, you mught jsut have some gay hyfaxes i ran a 144 with 4 boagies and no scratchers for ever 1000 miles and the hyfaxes are maybe 1/4 worn and i rode spring, rocks, and anything else, ran it loose, and the clips were nice and smooth.

loosen the track - i couldn't keep a set of slides on my sled. I started to run about 2" to 3" of sag after extros were installed - slides look like new even after running crap trails back home (M10 151" with 2" ported finger camo)

It does make sense to me that the snow that the ports are letting out, isn't there to cool the runners. That said, my track is ported in the middle, and last year with all bogies on, my runners hardly wore at all. And that is without scratchers. This year I took off all the bogies, and am going to try it without scratchers, just drilled hyfax.

In your case though, I am going to assume there is something up with the track tension.

The opposite was true for my old (01) rmk. Slider wear increased quite a bit after porting the center belt and all the closed track windows.
Still needed scratchers though.

I don't think it would be a tension issue. I am running extroverts and the track is just tight enough to keep it from slipping when I press the easy button. I will check the condition of the clips. I guess I just check for sharp edges? If they are could I smooth them out or should I replace the clip, or toss the whole track?
