Excellent rebuttal to John Stewart calling Truman a war criminal

Too bad Stewart isn't as funny as he thinks he is.

Wikipedia: Jon Stewart (born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz on November 28, 1962) is an American political satirist, television host, actor and stand-up comedian. He is best known as the host of The Daily Show, a satirical news program airing on Comedy Central.

Very good info there, I've always been interested in WWII history. If Stewart still feels that way he is an idiot.

I didn't know that leaflets were dropped (5) days prior to the bombings. Everyday is a school day.....

Everyday is a school day.....

My father(who is a retired school teacher) always said "If you are smart, you learn something everyday". It's great attitude to have and a great way to live your life!

Until today, I had always enjoyed listening to Stewart. I always took him for what he is and with a grain of salt but the Truman remark was uncalled for and unfounded. We're the same age(myself and Jon Stewart) and I have always known Truman's reasoning. I thought it was common knowledge with most my age. Thank goodness Stewart wasn't the president. I'll bet there are more than a few VFW's writing letters to Comedy Central.

Liberals don't let reality get in the way of their idealism. Stewart is a keyhole smartazz. His view of the world is always critical of the USA and conservatives.

I wonder if Stewart is willing to interview the civillian survivors of China, Burma, Sout East Asia, The Phillipines and Other South Pacific Nations that were subject to Japans Quest for Imperialism, to see if they agree or disagree with what the US did to end the War. Truman dropped those babies to save over 1 Million US servicemen's lives in a invasion of the Japanese Homelands. Why are these facts left out of the history taught in our schools?

That is the one thing I am kinda  about in this guy's rebuttal.

There are like what, 10 japanese symbols on there yet he goes on a 2 minute diatribe about what they say? 10 symbols say all that :confused:

The ten symbols he refered to were on the front side listing the possible cities that the US were targeting. The message he refered to was written on the back side of the leaflett. :)

Lots of people died in bombings during WWII, 25,000 in Dresden, 45,000 in Hamburg, Tokoyo,

The atom bombs killed 140,000 people in Hiroshima and 80,000 in Nagasaki.

Not only would have up to a million American servicemen died taking the island, but millions and millions of citizens of Japan would have surly been killed or taken their own lives.

And, the Russians were close, had the war drug on another 2 months, half of Japan would have fallen under Russian rule.

Truman made the only logical choice available to him. Everyone else's opinions are back seat driving. We didn't start the war, but Truman ended it, at least in Asia. War Enders are now War Criminals, f'ed up world we live in.

Only in America ... this was selling on eBay for $23.95. Interesting piece of history though. The first circle/characters on the front left is Tokyo ... I'm researching which are Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

In China alone over 300k civilians were murdered by Japanese troops by varoius methods including chemical gas attacks. Many more died of starvation and sickness as a result of the Japanese presence.
In Korea there is still a great deal of hatred towards the Japanese and their atrocities commited prior to and during the war.

Had the American public known that Truman had the bomb and decided NOT to use it (for moral reasons) and thousands more of our guys died from a Japanese mainland invasion they would have strung Harry up by the nads. The Batan death march (10k allied deaths) and brutal Japanese prison camp conditions were the legacy of Japan's arrogance towards other peoples. For Stewart to mock one of the most difficult decisions of the war to SAVE lives makes him IMHO a tool of the highest order.

I certainly agree the bombings were necessary and give credit where credit is due, however there is more to the Truman administration that was either shortsighted completely treasonous. It was under Truman that George Catlet Marshall, the same who was golfing on 12/7/1941 when the Japenese attacked, signed orders which he boasted disarmed 10 Nationalist chinese divisions thereby assuring the defeat of Chiang Ki Shek and forcing the Nationalists to Taiwan and dooming the chinese people to communist control even today. I stopped believing these actions by government officials and officeholders that subvert ours and the rest of the worlds interests are simply mistakes of judgement. Swampy:eek::(
