Excel front suspension questions

Just picked up an 84 excel 340 for the boy. Thinking about putting a little more distance between the snow and belly pan........any advice?

Thanks

So they only way I am seeing to do this and keep some suspension there is to cut and paste on the spindles.......anyone else have any ideas?

Actually, what do you think about just adding some flat metal, say the length of the bracket at the end of the spindle that the spring and shock attach to, roughly 2-3 inches wide, there for dropping both the bolt holes for the spring and the shock the same at the same time?

Should I be concerned with the integrity of the metal if I were to cut and weld in a length on the spindle itself?

I would be concerned with the integrity if you cut and welded the spindle. I think you would want to weld a sleeve around it as well if you did that.

I don't think I'm clear on what you are describing in your last comment about adding some flat steel.

I'm guessing you are pretty handy at welding. How much distance are you hoping to achieve. Why not just add some square steel under both ends of the ski? Basically under the saddle where the leaf spring mounts in the rear and the leaf spring / shock mounts in the front. That would keep the shock travel correct.
