These are samples of some of the types of patients admitted to the hospital that I got in just ONE day (I'm one of multiple people who type medical records for this one hospital, so this is only some of the patients).
Patient with diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetes mellitus out of control, not taking insulin
Patient with alcohol intoxication, syncopal episode (passing out), blunt head trauma.
Patient with polysubstance abuse, had seizure from alcohol withdrawal, methamphetamine use.
Patient with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, noncompliant with diet and medications.
Patient with polysubstance abuse, alcohol, heroin, methadone.
Patient noncompliant with insulin, uncontrolled diabetes
Patient as danger to self and danger to others (psych)
So three patients admitted because they didn't take their insulin, two drug addicts, two drunks and one psych patient (the majority of the psych patients are drug users and "decompensate" because of the drug use and/or they quit taking their medications - they are young and they are "disabled" on SSDI for the rest of their lives, can't hold down jobs)
So why should those of us living a healthy lifestyle pay exorbitant taxes out of our pay to support the repeated hospital admissions for drug addicts, drunks and people not taking their insulin?
Flame away.
