I'm in the game with the kawi KX450 and will be ordering the ST 121 horse. What do I need for the bike to get it set up properly?

What jetting set up for 7500-10500?

What skid plate brand?

What air box set up?

What thermostat brand?

What hand guard brand?

Any other recommendations from the Kx450 owners that will make this a dependable worry free bike for those elevations.

thanks

Welcome to the snowbike world, you are going to love it.

The answers to pretty much every question you have can be found on the first page of this forum. Read through all the threads and you should get a great idea of what you will want to do. The skid plate is maybe a question that nobody has hit on specifically, but I don't think you need one. I'll be running without one this season.

On my bike I run a Acerbis plastic and very light skid plate, IMO I think they are a good way to keep a little snow of of the engine . Also what year KX450 is your bike as the KX450 has been fuel injected from. 09 ? If it is carburated then it's hard to beat a JD jetting kit for that bike and the owner is a very good with help and suggestions, it's worth the $75.00 kit. Don't forget to work on your airbox too !

It's an 09 efi, I understand no real jetting but any adjustments that need to be made for the elevation? I'll be getting a thermostat, but wondering if there's anything else needed if ur not going to run a controller? What do you recommend for the kx airbox?

That's a good bike to run with your kit and is the same year bike I ran last season. I did'nt run a controller on my KX450 last season but it is'nt a bad thing to add . On my airbox I blocked off the air intake on the side number plates with snow filter fabric, Timbersled prefilter sock on air filter, 2" foam sheet cut to fit air box under seat to stop snow from top and second sheet of foam wrapped around air filter and tucked into bottom of air box. This may not be the best way to keep all snow out but it worked well for me, was easy to pull out and shake out snow on light powder days. I ordered the foam in a dirt bike shop is is made for mud so it is durable.
