Engine temps/blanket/pipe wrap.

I have a thermostat thread going but also curious what temps people are aiming for and what they find works best.

I ordered a 130f t sat not knowing I could have got a 190f one.

Last weekend in deep snow it would hover around 125-140f but after 3-5 min in the deep snow it would eventually dive to 90f.

Also on the last day after getting down the trail I was getting the trailer open and left the bike run to help melt stuff off. When I got back to the bike it was 210c and the pipe was red hot. Wondering if it was bc my rad was covered in ice and low air flow? I thought I must have been low on coolant but after it settled down it still good on fluids. Wondering if others have seen this.

What is a "high" temp on these bikes?

seems a bit steep:

Any 4 stroke left idling is going to get hot, I can light a smoke off the header in just a few minutes of idling. I assume you meant 210f which really isn't that hot, if it was 210c then yeah it's ready to blow!

Yes 210-215f. Pipe was glowing in the dark!

ENGINE TEMSP

RIDING my ktm 500 FI in 20 degree temps and 2ft of fresh fluff pulling some hill, my temps would be 175 motor, 130 radiator hose at thermostat, top of radiator 100 taken with thermo gun.

full plastic cover on right side, wrapped pipe, one radiator covered.

I since added plastic cover on right side behind pipe and back over the FI unit and a cover from my plastic belly pan covering my water pump and clutch cover, I didn't pull out the gun, but in those same conditions sunday I have pretty nice clean radiators all day and others had ice and snow packed in theirs.

stock air box, FROGZSKIN over dry filter and bottom cut out of air box, looks ugly in there but never a hickup,

same year and style ktm with TS snorkle has issues last month.............he screened his air in take area and solved the problem

his wooped sx 450 with same engine covers, we are both running the same kink of numbers.

great gas mileage, no water in nice clear oil, stock KTM thermo's,

any pictures or information about the plastic cover? I have the yeti intake on it works great. Order the right thermostat so that will also help.

Check out drifters products for engine blanket! Just got one for ktm 500 and they are priced right and look like they will do a good job!

Did a quick hunt for this can you fire a link in here didnt find what you were looking at?

Thanks.

Tuesday, yeah 210 is actually a good temp. Most autos have 210 thermostats from factory these days. There is another thread on here with info on same subject. Thermobob offers a 90c/194f stat for his setup. But that alone will not do the job, too much transfer of heat via convection from block to rads via return hoses. Gotta cover the engine and rads. I use a canvas cover suspended from top of rads and free at bottom with a rope sew in that allows me to cover and uncover the rads while moving. I made my own prior but also have a pst engine cover on my new fx. Rode in enough powder yesterday that several had plugged intake issues and cold bikes. I spent 90% of day at about 195 coolant temp. I have 194 stat. Only needed about 1/2 of one rad to control temp.
As long as your not spitting coolant, periods of 210 or more are great for flashing off fuel and moisture from your oil. Fuel and moisture in the oil are givens unless you get the engine warm (close to 200) for extended periods.
