Engine runs-- lost power to MFD

Out riding yesterday. Sunny spring conditions.

Lost power to MFD completely. Then MFD would flicker. Was on long enough to see EV code come up. Lost power to MFD, limped sled back to truck.

Relays on bulkhead cross member were cleaned, dialectic greased, covered (by previous owner). Relay in bag over primary clutch had light corrosion, I cleaned male and female connectors and reinserted.

No change.

When sled is running, no 14v output to "gauge power" plug above primary.

When I supply 12volts to "gauge power" plug. MFD powers up and EV activates. When I fire sled up, with external battery powering MFD, I get no codes or check engine light.

Need to determine where power loss is on MFD circuit.

Suggestions welcome.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks in advance.

I am starting get a little worried that the wire harness/relays on these Axys sleds suck! I have seen some corrosion of some of the pins on my sled after only 250 miles of use.

Looks to be a relay failure. Relay had been dialectric greased previously, no signs of corrosion, but 14 volts from stator was not making it through the relay.

Found lots of wire wear spots in the process.

Where wires come down steering post and snake through the over structure-- there is a sharp edge that frays the wire protective wrap

Inside the bundle under the airsnorkle, wires were rubbing together and wearing away insulation

On coils where trigger wires ran over coil mounting posts, insulation getting thin there also.

Need to put back together and take for a test ride.

How many miles/hours on your sled Murph? Nothing worse than electrical issues especially wire harness problems on a sled.

Murf did you check your Axys for the same wiring issues? I hope this issue was on the Butchers sled and not the black sled. Sorry to hear your having problems. Good luck Rod

It was the black sled. No worries, sh!t happens. It's why we have backups:face-icon-small-con

Just finished a 23 mile test ride. All seems good now.

Murph, can you by chance post or send pics of the relay that you suspect was the culprit, and pics of where the wire was/is wearing would also be handy. Thanks in advance.

I'm travelling to the Motogp race in Austin for work. When I get home next week I can take a photo of those.

If you don't see them next week, feel free to PM me and remind me.
