engine resonating

Had SLP balance and set up a new clutch this year as i rebuilt engine on my 03 700 rmk, anyways all the setups are the same. slp black/pink with 68 grams and 1 gram in the tip, slp spring ans helix in the secondary also

Anyways runs strong except sometime resonates rite at the highest rpms, wondered if since the clutch it new and balanced i need to add a little more weight to the tip? I remember when i balanced the cltuch on my xlt years ago it picked up almost 400 rpms on top and had to change weights.

Ive never dealt with this resonating problem but its annoying

thanks

I also changed from a 144 to 156 track

Might be as simple as the band on the pipe. Check it as they do loosen a bit and have been known to resonate and kick in the stutter program

Thanks Sno i checked the clamp and it was indeed loose, Ill hope it was that easy of a fix. appreciate it

if i add more weight will it change my rpms. I have slp 68 gram mtx weights with 1 gram in the tip. Should i replace with a 2 or 3 gram. The rpms were right around 8000

thanks

The SLP single on the 700 should pull 8000 RPM(on an acurate tach that is). You can try to add a gram and see if it will still pull it. Sometimes it will. If the peak RPM do drop, then go back to the 1 in the tip.

the sled is still resonating bad, i verified the timing and perfect, just unsure of were to go next. Im gonna call starting line tommorow and see what they recomend

thanks

Add more weight, or try a steeper helix, or a softer spring. The clutches are fighting one another. I went through this on my sled. Also with a SLP single on an 800 though.

Trav what do you think add one gram or more to the tip. It has one gram now but have 1,2,3 gram rivets i could try

thanks

another thing i did was change reeds to boyesen dual stage reeds. WOuld that have anything to do with the resonating?

I had 800's that would resonate, it seemed to happen when the pipe was "cold",or when the hood was off. There was also a shim you could get that would go between the Y pipe and SLP pipe. This would make the pipe "longer" by 1/4"

Adding more clutch weight will work your motor harder a make more heat.
Give it a try,good luck.
Tar.

Thanks Tar, Im gonna add another gram to the tip tommorow and give it a try saturday, Ill keep everyone updated

thanks everyone

If it's only hitting 8000 it shouldn't be doing that. Usually happens to a cold pipe over-revved sled. I think your tach may be off but you should also check the buttons in the secondary and make sure they are OK.

talked to my local sled shop (experts on poo) and they said the pipe isn't getting enough heat, I'll try putting some screens over the exhaust side hood openings and see what happens.

well added another gram to the tip and rode yesterday, sled did not resonate as bad but did not run nearly as strong either. Not sure what to try next. I might remove the rivets and try that way. Would be removing 2 grams

Ill keep updating

check your jetting. are you saying its surging or sounds funny? if it sounds funny then maybe check for a "dull" exhaust spring.

you can fix the pulsing by going lighter in weights, but a better fix is to add weight. it will sound unhappier, but if you test back to back on the same hill, it will pull harder with the bigger weights.
