engine light comes on after idling

Okay, so a buddy brought my sled up to the mountains this weekend for me to drop them off where we store them. He said that he let them (mine and his) idle on the trailer and warm up before driving them up the hill (about 50 yards) to our storage. He said that once he got on the throttle the engine light came on.

The only changes over the summer compared to last year are : addition of a purelogic controller (haven't added fuel to the stock mapping yet - planning to when I open up the airbox), removal of headlight, removed speedo but the airbox is still stock, and added egts. Gas is brand new, egt's were running at 875ish.

Any ideas what may be causing this light to come on or where I should begin my troubleshooting. I haven't seen this for myself yet but my buddy knows his stuff. ANy help is appreciated.

875 ish When idling ? That is WAY hot !!!
Was the light on or flashing ?
If it was flashing was it steady or flashing then stop then flashing again ?

Rixster - just got off the phone with him and now he's having trouble remembering if it was just on permanently or flashing. The hill he rode it up is super short so I can see where it'd be tough to remember. He said he just rode it up and dropped it in the shed.

I did find a diagnotics sheet though that I think is for this engine. Sounds like if it was a steady flash then the coolant was too hot (176+F) and if it was on permanently then the coolant was smokin hot (200+F)? Is that right? Maybe he let them warm up too long...?

As for the EGT readying - it idles in the 300-350 range. The 875 was going up the hill. I know the idle temps because I checked them myself before it left.

yeah, if he rode it up the hill with no snow ? Maybe it was just a little hot. and your right with the EGTS

Maybe want to check the thermostat? It could have been stuck from sitting? Hopefully that is what it is as it will be the cheapest fix! Mike
