Engine Burn down

Lost engine after 600 miles with boondocker pump gas turbo, intercooler, electronic boost control. Lost piston skirt, cylinder skirt, piston and shatterd case, going back together with new engine with wisco piston, have heard that stock polaris piston and cylinder skirts are weak, and piston clearance with stock piston is big, causing piston rattle. I run my turbo carefully with 6 psi boost and keep a good eye on egts, happened boon docking light engine load. Might have cracked skirt last year before boon docker fixed pre det issue, just a guess.

X2 on that, if its a 4cfi ......well your not alone on that one

I also had a piston skirt fail last year with only about 200 miles on it. Over 800 miles on after re-build, run higher boost levels and have not had a problem since. I used Polaris pistons on re-build, seem to be working fine. Maybe they had a bad batch of pistons?...

Saying what you have for a sled would be helpful when you're talking about issues...Are these failures on Pros or Dragons?

Curious to what fuel you were running? and if your oiler was turned up or the way it came from factory?

Thanks guys. I'm also curious about gmustangs questions as well.

Sage, I see your from Grand Junction. Where do you ride mostly? I'm from Dillon and ride that area but am always looking for new places and people to ride with.

50/50 RG/premium, and the oiler adjustment was turned up. Also every tank gets a few ounces of oil as a precaution. The burn pattern looked very good and was equal on both sides. All we could come up with was bad piston from factory

Well let me put it this way, sht happens. Sucks for ya but its a sled and some just break down. Its not always the operator, turbo what fuel ect just bad engine components from factory. The crank broke on my wifes 09 hcr with 300 miles bone stock. Primary clutch fell right off., the look on her face was priceless.

I feel your pain. Had the same thing happen. 1200 total miles on sled, 200 miles on boost. Intake side of the Mag side piston broke off and destroyed everything(case, crank, cylinder, etc). 2011 Pro

What piston was it for you? what side of that piston, intake or exhaust?

fuel mix

Running 20% 110 rg and 91 pump gas, oiler is stock setting, I am going to turn linkage in 1/2 turn or add to my tank.Lost skirt on intake side of piston, piston on the mag side. I ride the grand mesa, steamboat springs, Flat tops near Glenwood springs, Crested butte area, Meeker area. And above Vail. headed for Red Mountain this weekend down by Durango. Thanks for info

Most guys are doing 2-3 full turns on the oiler.. its that far out from factory.

you'd wanna be using roughly a liter:canada: of oil to a tank of fuel (40:1).. 32:1 is ideal.

Wow, exactly the same failure as mine. When mine broke the sled was just sitting there idling and the skirt randomly fell off. Good thing for warrenty:face-icon-small-coo
I was riding in Cooke City,MT. 60/40 race/pump gas. I had my oiler turned 3 1/2 turns up from factory setting. When I checked oil useage 2 days before that put me at 40:1, so apparently turning the oiler up isn't the answer either because a buddy of mine has been running his '11 SBA silber turbo at stock oil setting, not even premixing, really has no turbo experience to speak of and his engine is still alive.
