Encampment questions

We've been going to Snowy for over 10 years, have stayed everywhere, rode everywhere. We go to Tog and Cooke to get some new looks.

Anywho, we were thinking about Encampment. We have not ridden there, and perhaps we would stay in Centennial and do most of our riding in Snowy for the week, and take 1 day to explore Encampment. It's 150 miles via I-80 from Centennial, so 2.5 hours of driving each way.

I'm assuming there are places to stay in Encampment, (guy posted a house on these WY threads). But I'm not worried about that at this time since it may just be a day trip to explore a little. My Encampment questions:

Plenty of gas there?
Some food, via restaurant and grocery?
How far is the riding area from town?
Riding similar to Snowy?
I'm assuming the area is much smaller than Snowy, are we talking Cooke small/get tracked up by noon? (I know all the hidden corners in Cooke, but they still get tracked up by noon)

Thanks in advance for any info.

Eric

There was a sled club over there at one time, don't know if there still active?I would try getting a hold of the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce or Saratoga Inn.Hope that helps a little bit:)

I have ridden thier twice. Stayed in encampment at a small 50's style hotel. No gas, food or services on the mountain that I found. Sled park is about 5 miles from town, gas in town. The riding is set up much like the snowies with a summer road closed for winter as the main trail. Both times we were there we only saw a couple trailers and maybe a half dozen sleds all day.

Saratoga is about 20 to 30 mins. from the sled park but have alot more services and a polaris dealership on the north edge of town.

hope this helps...,!

There are some cabins like a mile out of town that are really nice we stayed their 2 years ago. I love going to encampment more than the snowies becuase it is less crowded and has some more technical terrain.

Cabins

Yeah, Stayed there a couple years ago too at the cabins like 2 miles north of town. We actually ended up riding up the mountain. Snow was great in the ditches for ditch banging. The drive up to the parking area was not bad either though.

I can't remember the name of the cabins. They were very nice though and a good price.

The snow is always great.. If the weather is nice Encampment is a great place to ride. If the weather sucks it's the last place you want to ride! There is always people getting lost up there every year. I would recommend that you get a hold of snocross338 on here and check into a guide..

Thanks. Lost? No good. We typically leave a crumb trail on the satellite thingy.

Are there trails for some reference points? Snowy is nicely set up so that when in doubt, you'll eventually cross a trail.

Eric

There are no trails to speak of.. You have the highway that in the summer connects Encampment and Baggs.

Shhhhhhh!

Encampment is a hidden gem so I hope no one reads this!!! It is our favorite place to ride & we ride Snowies, Rabbitt Ears, Utah, Togwotee etc...

Not much for ammenities, but you can drive to Saratoga for those if needed. We normally stop in Saratoga on our way through to get food, gas, etc. There is a small convenient store in Emcampment though where you can get gas & snacks. There is some hotels & houses for rent. We sleep on the mountain in our trailer.

The snow is usually deeper than Snowies. Riding is similiar. Some areas are way more technical. We have broke two pairs of handelbars there. I guess The bars don't like that much tugging. :-)

Anyways, it's an awesome place to ride and there is never more than a few trailers parked there. SHHHHHH!! Keep it quiet if you like it!!!
