Built this for about 30$ from princess auto. Put in a couple different fuses and seems to throw decent light. 55w bulb halogen, not the greatest but it would have helped a couple of times last year. My plan is to throw it in my pack and hopefully never have to use it.

All I use for a headlight is a lead dog, they kick azz, you can see everywhere you look. Super bright and handy if someone has a breakdown.

AA

i am gonna be running a little single light like that on my bars, i dont want the huge headlight setup, but if i need light dont want to be screwed... i just keep mine hard wired on as its well protected and nice to have always, nothign to forget.

I have basically the same set up as Rotax. Works fine. I also have a lead dog that I just purchased, so should have plenty of light if needed. I really like the emergency set up Tuesday:beer;

i bought the HID helmet light . Not cheep but bar far the best lighting system you can have for in the mountains ! they also sell cheeper ones that work better than the lead dog and seem much better built . a friend of mine runs this and it works perfect for going down the trail at night and is much lighter than mine.Tuseday you should thow some velcrow on that rig and youll have a wicked helmet light too !

Looks good Tuesday. I got the Cyclopse single helmet light as well that plugs into the cigerette lighter outlet. It actually works much better then the stock headlights. I carry it in my seat for a emergency. I think it was around $100.

Just tested it and it works pretty slick. It will definately throw enough light to get me off the hill. I was surprised at how much light that 55w halogen through off.

I was really wanting to do a helmet light set up but I just bought a new carbon fiber helmet and have not been able to bring myself to stick a piece of velcro on the top.

Funny I was planning to make the same sort of bracket that rotax is using and just have some wing nuts if I need to set up the light.

I have no idea if it will hold up to a 20 km whooped out trail or tons of cold snow hitting the glass. Time will tell and I am not out much $$.

I will have to say Lead dog all the way---got one for Christmas last year after years of messing with headlamps mini lights etc.

They are awesome with tail light and brake-light build in bright as can be and the light is always where you need it.

The rangers here use them for search and rescue. A headlight and spotlight in one.

Just put out some good hints to your better halve Christmas is coming soon:face-icon-small-hap

I have the exact same set up as you but I made the cable a little longer and mounted it on my helmet visor. You would be amazed at how much nicer it is to light up everywhere you look. Try making a little longer cable and drill 2 small holes on your helmet visor and I just carry a couple of short bolts with wing nuts on them. I have the exact same light as you and when its pitch black out you will be amazed at how bright that light is.

Doh velcro and holes in my new lid?! If I end up doing more night riding I will consider it. I just figure I would probably wipe out and tear up the wire or hang myself hehe.

LOL.. I've done that. Bit it a few times with the light on my head but I put a little quick connect on the end and if I wipe out it just pops off. Plug it back in and away I go. Bunch of us have them and they work great.

Tested it last night, the little light actually throws a decent amount of light. Just need to fab up a bracket.

Nice do-it your self set-up. The cover for the auxilary plug has 30W printed on it. Did you have to replace the fuse to allow a 55W draw? Do you find that the electrical system is loaded up with the extra light on?

I put a 10 amp fuse in the plug and in the circuit box. I was just idling with the light on and it seemed fine. Maybe if you have the hand warmer on high it may be a bigger pull? The first time I plugged it in it blew the 3 amp fuse in about 2 seconds. I think it will be fine. My concern that is pounding down the trail that the bulb will crap out......time will tell.

Anyone know what the stock bulbs pull for wattage/amps?

Been running those as helmets lights wwith velcrow for 15 years now and I can't remember changin a buld in any of them! They work great. Like was said above, I use a plug that comes apart easily so when I eat it with the light on, it just comes unplugged and doesn't break anything. I also wire all of ours into the low beam system on the sled. That way I can turn it on and off by going between high and low beams. The helmet light is different at high speeds and we are usually tree riding when you really want to use the helmet light on, thus putting it into the low beams.
That way you pull up to someone and talk without blinding them or unhooking it!

A couple of pics. Still messing with the bracket but you get the idea. Works great, esp for a backup light!:beer;
