Was wondering what elevation I should clutch for at these three spots. Still don't know exactly where we are going, but probably Vail Pass for sure, then maybe Rabbit Ears or Buff Pass.

I usually clutch and jet for 10,000. I think that RE is 9,500 and Vail pass is around 11,000.

The Vail Pass parking lot is 10,500 and Ptarmigan Hill (the highest you would be able to go) is 12,500. Most of the ridding there is 10,500 - 11,300.

Vail Pass requires you to pay a $6 daily usage fee. They will be there to make sure you buy it. I use actual topo maps. Any sporting goods store or ski shop usually has them.
And you will need a $20 non-resident sticker. You can get it at silverthorne powersports in Frisco, or the Yamaha dealer in Dillon.

We have the Topo for the GPS. Good to know there is a dealer right there. We'll pick up stickers and trail maps there.
Any chance they rent beacons? I have always been able to borrow them in the past from a friend, but his are on loan fight now. We kinda want to wear them.

You can also purchase your pass online. I 'think' a printed receipt is ok if the permit doesn't come in time. If you buy from dealers, make sure they have the non-resident. The state parks website should have all the info.
