Electric Impact Wrench??

R

I have a low end compressor and impact wrench from canadian tire.... it did not have enough juice to remove 90 lb/ft of torque on the flywheel... Since the Primary is the same spec.... I figure it wouldn't do the clutch either..... My budy has a different gun than I do and my little compressor with his gun worked fine.....

I just ordred a clutch puller and flywheel puller from SLP and wonder if an electric impact wrench will be better than my low end air impact wrench....

Well... Cambodia Tire... aka.. Dukabohr Disney Land... Had a sale on Electric Impact Wrench's... Regular 149.99.... on Sale for 49.99..... I figured I'd buy it and try it.... I don't have any reason to use it right now.... But it's rated for 240 lb/ft Torque so I think since it's a electric tool.... It should have more than enough juice to remove a flywheel or primary clutch.....

Has anybody ever used one of these electric impact wrench's??

A guy at my work with bought a Mac 18V electric impact recently. Pretty sweet tool IMO. I find myself borrowing it a lot when it comes to zipping off various bolts and such. Wasn't cheap though, $3xx:eek:. Keep in mind they aren't a replacement for heavily torqued nuts/bolts but for whats on a sled in terms of torque specs, I think it should do fine.

Thanx for the reply's fella's..... I kind of figured for the $49 CAD.... It would be worth it since it's rated for 240 lb/ft Torque..... and the highest torque rating on my sled so far is 90 lb/ft Torque..... Good to know..... I kind of figured that electric will burn it's self out trying.... While Air and gas.... not like there is a gas driven impact... will be at the mercy of the rating..... I guess I'm still at the mercy of the breaker.... But on a 15 Amp Circuit by its self I'd imagine it should do the job....

I just was looking for some real world experience with these electric Impact wrench's.... The Guy's at work were kind of laughing at me since they all have nice big compressor's and fancy tools.... But bang for the buck.... I figured I couldn't get a "quality" air impact gun for under $49 CAD...... Worth trying I.M.O.

I feel better!!! I love a good sale at Cambodia Tire!!!

Cheers.... and Happy Holliday's to Y'all!!!

If you are looking for the BADY BOY of bad boy cordless impacts, NOTHING compares to the Dewalt 36V. The thing is flat awesome. It was so awesome in fact, someone walked off with it. I also have one of the flood lights (shines for 8 hours on a single batery) and a recipricateing saw aka Sawzall. The Sawzall quarted 2 full elk on one battery including taking off the horns. I dont know if any of you are hunters but trust me, thats a amazing feet! Takes my Dads Ryobi 3-4 batteries to do one elk.

I have a craftsman electric impact driver ... I dunno what torques it will do but it wasn't fast enough to make removing my rear skid any easier ... I think it's probably ok for some stuff but I think I'd rather just buy a good compressor and a fast impact gun and be done with it after using this craftsman one.

This one is a Mastercraft...... I know you get what you pay for.... and that is what prompted this thread...... I just didn't want to have to accept that it was time to buy a grown up compressor and tools....

I forgot to mention I also do have 2 other electric impacts. One is a 1/2" Dewalt that really does a heck of a job. It is fast and very strong. I put a body lift on one of my trucks using it and got a little over zealous with it putting one of the bed bolts back in. Drove the bolt right through the bottom of the bed and split the body lift "puck" right in half. It was like the metal wasnt even there.

My other Electric is a 3/4" Makita. This thing is a scary piece of equipment. It makes my high dollar air impacts look like childs play. Any more, if I am trying to get something that I know is seriously torqued down, I just grab the Makita. I have broke more sockets and bolts with the Makita than I have anything else.

My point isnt rather what you bought will be good or bad or weak or strong. My point is that the electric impacts work very well. As for Mastercraft, I have a bunch of thier stuff in the ol tool box and I feel I get more for my money with it and other less expensive tools than I do my high dollar stuff. My wife cries everytime one of them tool sale trucks come to town! So do I, because I am running out of garage space ;)

I have never heard of this "Cambodia Tire" outfit,
but I had one I bought from "Harbor Freight" (Chicago Electric) for $50.
I used the piss out of it for a couple years til it puked.

It had more power than my 18V DeWalt does.
For occasional use, it would fit the bill perfectly.
For everyday use, I'd spend more, but it sounds like exactly what you need.

When it comes to electric impacts you defaintly get what you pay for. THis goes for both battery powered and corded. We use and have had both kinds and if you want them to really work you need to buy a good brand in my expereince.

My father had a corded Ingersoll Rand (corded) that he picked up in the late 70's. It lasted until the mid 90's when the hammers went out on the impact. Good impact.
The cheaper ones have lighter armetures and windings in them and wear out fast when they get hot the brushes and armetures go away fast.
As Farmer stated, you get what you par for
Now days I use the Snap-On 18 volt impacts when away from the shop

We have a Harbor Freight corded one out in the yard at work. It has actually been a very good tool. It isn't the quality of some of the others, but HF's warranty and return policy (at least here), is so good we just use it till it dies and go get another new one. It does the job just fine.

I been running a DeWalt 1/2" cordless for a year or so and love it. Just picked up a 3/8" off the net and it is a dandy as well. the 3/8" will do all but lug nuts and really big stuff.

It is intervention time for RIDEGUY, I have a nice upright compressor left over from my shop in Reardan. Only used a few times and now sits in my storage. I can no longer tolerate coworkers laughing at you or being dependent on Canadian Tire import tools. You buy the garlic shrimp eggrolls and I'll deliver you a man sized compressor. Let me know when. Congrats for you, the first step is admitting that you have a problem. After that everything can be resolved.

"Hi my name is RIDEGUY, and I have a small................uhm......compressor".

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. EW

I've got the Canadian Tire cordless electric impact and use it for everything. It doesn't put out the torque that it advertises....but its enough for a quad wheel nut....and very handy for everything else.

Then I'll have to get a real impact wrench... LOL I can only dream what it would be like to run a die grinder with a reciever larger than 7 gallons.... Flashed up my sled the other day and just need to fix some plastic's from bouncing off some trees.... A few other little projects to come but waiting for parts.... Story of my life .... Other than that I'm good to go for riding :D
