EGT temp on a 2004 king cat 900 carb

well i have a 2004 king cat 900 and i recently installed a set of koso egt gauges with the fast responding probes. this past weekend we were in cooke city and the highest temps i was recording we from 1100-1250 but it seemed to typically run around 950-1050. just looking for some insight as this is my first time running EGT gauges.
 
Sounds like you are in the ballpark. Depending on your probe location, 1150 - 1250 is ideal. 1350 is typically considered meltdown. I try to keep my max temp right at 1250. You will see the highest temps when running a constant 1/2 to 2/3 throttle down the trail. They run pretty hot in the midrange. If your egt has a warning light, I would set it for 1300.

if you guys are judging how good your sled runs by the temps that the EGTs are picking up or what they should be without actually tuning the sled to the egt readings then you are gonna have a rude awakening
 
i placed the probes about 4 inches from the piston skirts as koso recommends for use with a single pipe. also all im looking to get out of running these probes is to avoid hitting to high of temps that will cause me to burn the motor down as well as use them to help me tune the sled and keep in within the safe range so i dont end up burning it down.

also the sled runs awesome just want to keep track of things as i build it up trying to save myself some coin by monitoring things like the egt. im not trying to judge how my sled runs off of what my egt's are. i wanted to figure out what everyone believes is within the "safe range" to avoid burn down so i can adjust jetting and such accordingly as i add mods to it.

My point was that you determine your safe zone, each sled is different. Mine with single pipe/porting liked to run between 1250*-1350*'s. However, I would never consider running twins that hot. Singles like heat, twins do not.

Your on the right track. Watch temps and check plugs and come up with a good running zone for your sled.
 
As said above need to be comparing readings with plug color and piston wash. Have seen sleds burn down at 1200 deg and others run 1300 all day long. My old 1150 cpc use to like temps in the 1350 range.
