EGT sensor 2 (muffler)

Happened sometime during a DEEP day. Never saw the check engine light until I pulled into my shop.

Not wanting to miss a pow day, I used Oreilly sensor ETS 75– after cross referencing (thanks to madmax and cvcustoms from Coolant temp sensor thread)

2010 Chevy Silverado 2500

The Oreilly sensor is slightly longer. Plug is identical. Installed and DTC immediately went out. Took for short test ride and RPM was back to normal.

I will carry a spare from now on. Both EGT sensors (pipe and muffler) are identical.

Also FYI, I was noticing some RPM fade during an amazing day of WOT for extended periods of time, almost like it was getting hot. Read on FB page that the muffler probe will get hot after a while and will cause the timing to be pulled and exhaust valves to close just to protect the plastics. Their remedy was to pull the sensor out of the muffler, zip tie it to the chassis still plugged in and to pipe plug the muffler. It basically fools the sensor. This is on an aftermarket can so I am not worried about melting any plastics since my can is smaller than OEM. I have ran it this way for the past couple rides and no issues thus far.

This is interesting.... I ran into problems in super deep snow today. Riding solo breaking trail. Five minute plus long pulls.... 8300–>7900—>7600—> 7250–> 7000

barely limped out breaking trail at 7000rpm (WOT ?‍♂️) in 4 feet of snow.

Need to bench test sensors to see if resistance values are the same for a given temperature. Also thinking of swapping sensor positions, putting the longer sensor in the pipe and the shorter in the muffler. Might also try an anti-foul adapter to set the sensor even farther out of the exhaust stream.

I believe he runs the stock silencer

Another setback..... borrowed an OEM sensor from my buddies Axys, swapped in my spare 850 clutch (found a bad roller in the other). Short rip around my place, rpm was good. Stoked. Ready to rip pow. Figured I’d reconfirm torque (I run 70lbs vs 80) on clutch bolt. Touch the bolt and *ping* bolt snaps off.... in the crank. FML

Fight the urge to burn down my shop with sleds inside.

Finished buttoning up a new Indy Specialty 800 motor and took it for a rip versus slitting my wrists..... I think I made the right choice. .....

i just busted one of those a month ago.
(also considered wrist cutting)

but since it wasn’t my sled.:cool:
