EGT questions

i recently just bought jaws twin pipes and bd box for my o5 kk... i was told that i will have to run egts too... does anyone agree with this... is it a must or just a good idea... any help??

Not a must, and not necessarily a good idea either, if you rely on them too much without knowing exactly what they mean.

Richen your tuning with the BD box to JAWS recomendations. If they don't have any, I'm sure someone will chime in who was run twins on an EFI with a BD box.

Check your spark plugs, and tune with them. Once you're tuned in, EGTs are a good idea so you know if/when something goes wrong. There can be so much variation in what EGTs say depending on exactly where and how they are mounted, that the raw number doesn't do you a lot of good. You have to know how it correlates to your state of tune.

EGT's

Think of it this way.
You run your sled with no EGT gauge and she burns down, now your out 1 piston kit+jug+gasket set= $500 ? $600 ? Lost riding time ?
2 window digatron $350+tuning capabilities=Good Season beating your bud's all year

If you decied to run them I would use egt's. Sure lets you know what is going on once you get a base line.
I have run egt's on everything I have modified for the last 10+ years. Not one burn down since.

I can't speak directly to the pipes you have but I ran a D box on an 04 and fought it tooth and nail. I could get it tuned and running perfect on Saturday and it would run lousy on Sunday. I sold the box and went back to stock.

yes you do, but you need to pull plugs and check piston wash to figure out how acurate they are. then you need to take into consideration how the engine works, such as powervalves can create readings that are inconsistant at times and if a motor pre detonates it can create lower numbers and still cause failure. and also know how to accurately tune the bd box.

anybody else think that these jaws twins and bd box is bad to run on my 05 kk? if so why??

Relax my friend, nothing wrong with that combo. I am just looking for another set of pipes to buy. The 900 responds good to twin pipes but also just as good to single pipes to. The singles provide about the same power on the top end with about 200-400 less rpm's. The singles also provide better low rpm (grunt) power and are less critical to tuning. The twins sound better.
We have had 5 different arctic 900's all carbs, all have egt's. I have run PSI and CPI twins, we have also run the SLP and Speedwerx singles. The speedwerx runs better than the SLP. The twins really had no advantage over the 900's with singles. Had to run higher egt temps and rpm's on both twins which meant keeping a closer eye on things. The mid range was also more critical on the twins. The twins also rested on the plastic R side pan and were about 1/2" away from the hood. I have never messed with a BD box / EFI combo. I know I wouldn't do it without egt's. period.

Go with the EGTs. I plan on getting some for my sled. Better safe than melted down! Just dont completely rely on them for tuning. Check plugs and piston wash.

That's all I was really trying to say, going back and re-reading, it really sounds like I'm saying not to use them at all.

We do run them on many of our sleds. They do help, once you know what they are really telling you.
