EFI & freeze-up

I'm on my first EFI, a 2010 M8.

Rode 2 days in deep snow, then 3rd day sled would die when given throttle (first startup of day, temp est 15 degrees).

Poured a bottle if Iso in and after what seemed like 10 minutes it finally took off and ran flawless all day. Started it today just to see if I could replicate the problem and it didn't happen again.

Are EFI sleds more sensative to moisture in the fuel and/or throttle bodies?

As a side note, there have been a few times where upon cold start, I've had to restart the machine 3-4 times until it would maintain idle. Not sure if this is related to the problem or not. I suspect not since it ran fine once idle was maintained.

My experience riding in powder is to put a oz or 2 of iso alcohol in the tank every ride, that way i have no problems, EFI or Carbed

as far as starting when cold, yes it is common for them to die when first started, some do some don't, it will get better with miles

Three EFI's in the garage, iso heet in every tank of fuel, always. Including any extra fuel, put it in there as well. My son got a batch of bad fuel in his the other day. Had to empty the tank, wipe it out with a dry towel. Let it air dry overnight, and then ran a iso rich mixture thru the system. Don't run it more than a few seconds with a mixture like this, just enough to get into the fuel pump and lines. Fill it with fuel and away you go. Worked for his, it would freeze any night it was left outside, not anymore.

Check your fuel periodically with a light. Water is pretty obvious sitting down there on the bottom if you have any.

It could possibly be your TORS (Throttle override switch). If you try and give it throttle and the cable is froze or sticking the sled will die.

This happens to mine when cold as I often put my sled cover on when sled is warm and the sled is left outside. When this happens I just start my sled and let it idle a few minutes until the heat works its way up the cable.

The throttle cable seemed to operate freely but maybe this is not the cable you are referring to (TORS).?

I've been told there is some type of filter in the fuel tank that prevents water from getting in the fuel pump/lines so freezing in the fuel lines shouldn't be the issue.

My M1000 did the exact same thing with the exact same riding conditions, but my dumb azz burned it up, last year. I just did not think about ice in an injector. My BD box was even saying injector error.... How dumb can a guy be. Iso from here on out!
